This is harvest season for a Southern tradition. I want to buy a bushel of raw peanuts online. My relatives in Ocala would buy a bunch, cook, and then freeze them in Qt bags. Take 'em out when they want to eat them.

I would like to buy them and freeze them. I want to cook them as I need them. Has anyone in GatorDom froze them before cooking.

They will be mushy and fall apart when being boiled if you freeze them prior to cooking

No No -- boil them as fresh as you pick them or get a bushel. That is half the fun and they will be great! Plus tasting them with fresh Ice Tea or slide in a bud light and wow - brings back great memories.

I was able to get a big bag of them at Winn-Dixie about 2 weeks ago. The peanuts were huge and my wife cooked them up perfectly. Use them quick...they don't keep well although I've never tried freezing them.

I buy peanuts and freeze them, boil them as needed. Never mushy or falling apart. Take them to gatherings and folks rave about them.

Best I've ever had were fresh from little O'Brien in Suwannee county. My dad's uncle used to grow them. He seemed to have an internal clock and would call us when they were ready to be dug. We would sit around all day fighting gnats and picking fresh peanuts. Cleaning them and drinking iced tea. If my Grandfather would have seen us with a beer there would have been a 'talkin to'.

I've had a few meals of hot boiled peanuts and cold beer :D
    The fresher the better.
We used to pull em up outta the dirt, shake em off and throw em in a big boiling pot.
    Yumm-Yumm!
    Country livin baby!
