He and I go all the way back to our Chipola playing days. He’s as knowledgeable and funny as they come!
Context….how many has he had in the last 4 weeks? You know what I meant. In the last 3-4 weeks he’s barely played. Needs 12-13 to see what he can do.
He has had 13 plate appearances in the last 3 weeks....so there's that 12-13 you are looking for. The likely reason for that low number is because the month before he went 1 for 21. Simple fact is he has had 2 really good games this season, one vs Bama and one vs JU.....40% of his hits for the season came in those 2 games. He certainly has potential to do much better than we have seen, no question about it. But I also can't gripe that Sully has been hesitant to play him given the actual performance. IMO a more valid argument is getting Lastres some quality at bats.
Geesh. 12-13 over a weekend. You know enough about baseball to know what I’m talking about. You also know enough to know that we had at least 2 in the line up that haven’t hit at all even though the sample size is very large. They got those at bats I was talking about every weekend. You know that you can’t do much without consistent at bats. Interesting you talk about how he hasn’t done this or that when there are 2-3 others that are in awful slumps. Take a look at sec batting averages for our team. KC in conference 188 Halter 167 DF 153 Armstrong 222 You are talking numbers, so it would seem by the numbers that one is: 34 points better than another 55 points better 69 points better back to the premise…Armstrong hasn’t had consistent opportunities for most of the season. Other guys have had worse than 1-21 slumps, heck just look back up at the sec averages. I’m glad change has finally been made but would like Kris to get more than 12-13 at bats in 3 weeks.
A true gem. Was just talking about him last night as he would scout then was off to coach Boise Rookie team for Angels.
I also know enough to know that's baseball....sometimes you have a small window to make something happen. It's not always fair and you don't necessarily get consistent opportunities. I also know that we don't see how he is doing in BP and scrimmages. I also know he can be strikeout heavy on a lineup that already struggles with that issue. I also now he doesn't truly have a staedy defensive position. It's not really interesting I didn't talk about other guys. My response is to the Armstrong discussion. I try and deal with your obsessions one at a time. Again, I think he is better than he has shown and don't mind him getting more shots. But I also understand the hesitancy from Sully when he really doesn't know what he is going to get.
Pretty sure Matherly heard that Lastres was injured. I would think he has to be as we have not seen him in a while in any capacity.
That is correct. It still isn't clear what it is or how long but it seems he may be down for the season at this point.
Lastres hurt? How did that happen- straining a hammy catching the warmups between innings or punching his bedroom wall in frustration for getting zero playing time? Lastres is going to be a star-- hopefully at UF- or somewhere else-- if that is necessary. It seems peculiar that the top freshman recruit on the roster has gotten virtually no opportunity. A bit like Langford getting only 4 at-bats last year...Puzzling coaching decisions.
Bill- Do you by any chance know how to contact Joel Murrie….? He and I became friends while at UF … lost contact with him after he retired from Western Kentucky…
There are several players that I have been very supportive of. You get frustrated when I support (not obsessions) Gators it seems ( quite a few by my count) and provide specific examples and data. My support is different than yours. I’ll not respond to you with disrespect.
I don’t have any contact info on him but check with @wingtee—I’m sure we have talked about Joel in past conversations.
Wingtee, Do you by any chance know how to contact Joel Murrie….? He and I became friends while at UF … lost contact with him after he retired from Western Kentucky…Bill Horne said u might ….
Florida/Missouri stat comparison: Record UF 30-18, 11-13/MO 25-20, 7-17 Team BA UF .275/MO .285 Slugging % UF .492/MO .441 HR UF 88/MO 53 Runs UF 325/MO 316 Walks UF 216/MO 187 Strikeouts UF 392/MO 392 Stolen Bases UF 37-51/MO 51-59 Fielding % UF .979/MO .976 ERA UF 4.29/MO 5.56 Walks UF 169/MO 185 HR UF 46/MO 65 Strikeouts UF 430/MO 374 We have more power and better pitching. Fielding about =; they get a few more hits, but we walk a little more and we strikeout at the same rate. The edge goes to Florida, but they are home and it's an SEC series so the Gators have to come with fire and focus like they did in Starkeville.
Good stat comparison but it would be very interesting if there was a way to compare the Gators on the road to Missouri at home with all of these. Perhaps even better if they could be in conference only Gators away and Missouri at home. That way it takes out the early season and midweek bias at home and focuses on the real numbers these teams are facing.
thank you so much…. AL Hudson here from Chipley, went to Chipola (70-72) then UF …. Joel and I had adjacent apts 1 summer at UF
