I am asked to speak on the topic of effective leadership from time to time. I always remind the audience that, before I begin, I think about at least three people in my life whom I know, if my name were said to them, would opine words to the effect of "I wouldn't follow that sumbitch to a latrine." And I confess to knowing why they might feel that way and, in a way, they were right. All leaders are seen to be ineffective at times viewed from the POV of those they lead. Stay humble, my friend.
Fear is a healthy thing, otherwise we would all try to play on the interstate during the middle of the day...once. But no one should ever let their fears rule their minds. The difference between fear and respect (and not that "dissing me" crap that is rife these days) is knowledge. And knowledge combined with practice means skill. Too many UF basketball fans are stuck in the "we never get what we deserve" mode. I pity them as they can never truly enjoy themselves and the moment. Personally, I believe that is why God made alcohol. Okay, alcohol for us non-violent types...
