Another great improvement for America under the Big Beautiful Bill--electricity prices will be going up! We didn't really need all of that air conditioning in the summer, did we? Finally, a president courageous enough to take away our ability to afford air conditioning. (Don't worry, the billionaires will still have A/C.) Electric bills are set to rise by about $800 per year on average. Another example of Trump owning the libs. Trump should send a free box of coal to every American household so they could feel better about this. If only Trump would mandate that billionaires install an air conditioned bus stop in every neighborhood so that the peasants could pack in like sardines and watch Trump-O-Vision when their house gets too hot. Worshipping Trump would be optional (just kidding--the morning service will require all congregants to nod their heads up and down at everything that Trump says and say "Amen" at the end of every statement, while the afternoon service will require singing songs to honor Trump). This seems to me like a case of someone (ohh, I don't know, let's call this person "Donald J. Trump") increasing the temperature on a pot of water with frogs (let's call them "Americans") in it to see if they would really sit there and boil themselves to death, or if they would jump out and beat the person senseless. https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/27/climate/trump-tax-bill-energy-costs-dg
I don’t get the solar piece of this. With a goal of bringing manufacturing back, we had done just that. We’re kicking China’s ass. Now we are going to default it all back to them so we can do what, manufacture sneakers and shoelaces here? Makes no sense.
Nah. As some wise ol, sage dame once brilliantly framed it, "...ya gotta pass it, to find out what's in it."
Thanks to Chuck Schumer, probably. However, the senate is conducting votes as the reading carries forth. Looks like a final vote of approval in the senate on Monday afternoon or in the evening, presuming they are through reading an almost 1,000-page bill. I say approve because the vote last night to advance to debate, 10-15 hours of debate, was 51-49 with JD Vance not needed to cast a deciding vote. Thom Tillis of North Carolina has signed his loss for reelection next year, will be primaried and worked against by Trump. He has stepped into it big time for being a no vote. Considering what Trump/Musk (Musk Gave Free Star Link Service) did for North Carolina after the massive hurricane damage, I think Trump is Tillis' Daddy who knows what is best for North Carolina. I'm not sure who the other no vote was, but I'd speculate it would be Susan Collins who is in a tough reelection fight in her blue state. The republicans had the votes she could go her own way without threatening to kill the bill. My other speculation would be Mitch McConnell who seems to vote against all things Trump. Lisa Murkowski who is flirting with independency voted yes.
Anyone that thinks it is cheaper to buy and install solar to their house than to just buy power through the power company is dreaming. Everything I have read is most will not live long enough to make up the difference in electric bills to pay for solar equipment and installation and then the cost of replacing the equipment will eat up more cost in the future. Tax payers should not pay for your solar either. If you want solar panels on your house you buy them.
What did Trump do for NC after the hurricane, tell lies about FEMA and incite people almost to violence? And what does an out-of-office Trump have to do with anything Musk did? And finally, it's strange how transactional everything is to you. There's no helping NC just because ..... they suffered a natural disaster and need help? Have to give Trump a big deficit-funded tax cut because of that? Weird.
Not sure how you figure that. My payback should be 8 years and that doesn’t even take into account the increase house value.
Trump's beautiful big bill is on target to steal from the poor to feed the rich. Trump is kinda like Robin Hood in reverse. Poor people will give up $1600 in basic food subsidies so the wealthy can enjoy $12,000 in caviar and fine champagne. Sounds about right. Certainly par for the course for Trump. Disney could not make a cartoon villain any more wicked than Trump. MAGA supporters--there is still time to reduce minimum wage and put a lump of coal in their stockings! Middle income households will receive a small ($500-1,000) bribe to look the other way. https://apnews.com/article/trump-tax-bill-hurts-poor-helps-rich-cbo-f3d9d46ca3e829d6b850dca30b91a2b6
In most cases it will take 8-11 years to pay off the solar panels, from what I've read. Obviously, it pays to live in a state that gets a lot of sunshine. Ironically, the Sunshine State is not the best place for sunshine--too much cloudy days and rain. Southwestern states usually do the best--Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, California, etc. They get an average of about 8 hours equivalent of full sunshine a day, while Florida gets about 5. Florida's heat also works against it slightly because solar panels are less efficient at higher temperatures. A cooler state like Colorado (at the higher altitudes) will cause the solar panels to be more efficient. Another bonus for solar panels: they block sunlight from reaching your roof, lowering your cooling bills in the summer. One thing that I was surprised to learn was that having solar panels properly attached to your roof can actually strengthen your roof against a hurricane instead of weaken it. I saw a picture of a large building hit by Hurricane Michael (Cat. 5), and the only part of the roof that did not get stripped off was the one with the solar panels. Solar panels should last a long time, as long as they are properly installed and trees don't fall on them. They lose efficiency at about 2% a year, so they should have 60% of their electrical output after 20 years. And that efficiency/longevity is something that could be improved as they develop newer models. There are some significant concerns with solar panels (cost, financing options, electrical outages, etc.), but ability to pay for themselves over time is not one I've heard. The reason that government is (or was) subsidizing solar panels is that we need to wean ourselves from fossil fuels. Not only are they warming the planet, they are rapidly running out.
While I like Musk I have to wonder if this is in part driven by potential impacts on the solar and power storage systems for tesla. He did in part start Tesla because he believes EV can be part of the future of energy production.
All true however any one that suggests raising the retirement age gets hammered by the low info voter.
While I like our lower energy costs they are by far the lowest in most of the industrialized world. some of the ME countries are lower due to their ultra cheap FF resources. Europe is ridiculously higher.
Your sources are wrong. Most panels last 20 years as far as efficiency goes. Electricity rates go up almost yearly. Avg ROI is 8 years unless you go mad and have giant power walls and a big house.
