All correct. But what the author is trying to tap, besides internet hits and getting the dander up in UF fans, is that football at UF is a 400-pound gorilla (but not the 500-pound ones like at Bama, UGa, etc) and not merely a nice alternative to the basketball success. You miss bad on football, there WILL be financial hell to pay. But as I have posted, I do hope that the future does not get our gorilla to the 480+ pound level. That would be disappointing.

Yep, talk about taking a leisurely stroll through the nuclear wasteland of major college football. No more "it was the injuries that got us". Again, he did this to himself.

Someone in his family just didn't know how to spell their name is all. Pretty typical of Strickland's

I'm not sure he did anything to himself except for create a much better roster than he inherited. The NFL draft over the last few years has proven we were very low on talent. although roster seems to have much more NFL potential, flag was still only through for 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions right? This team is still green. Our offensive line and running backs may be the only ones that I would say or tried and experienced.

So, you are saying he will be playing the "Zook" card for our next Meyer? Okay.

Nothing is wrong with everyone's take, just that this is the off-season and hope springs eternal. Once the actual games are played and "stuff" happens, plenty of folks are going to change their ideas of what is "appropriate" in the timeframe of building a quality program. It is the way it works at UF.

He cant look like tge first half of last year no doubt. I wanted my money back early in the third quarter of the miami game. If he does a great job this year, i still dont have super high expectations. I just dont see the key upper classmen talent and leaders to make a deep run. I expect to look like a well run team and compete, but i dont see this group at this age to be expected to be a top 10 team.

Just because we are UF, doesn't entitle us to anything. We still have to be able to attract top coaches and players to our program. Napier demonstrated, during and after the strong finish last year that he was able to attract talent to Gainesville. It showed that he hadn't lost the locker room and that his team was very much following him. That was a pretty gutsy demonstration of believing in himself enough to allow the turnaround and sell himself to all stakeholders to continue to lead us into the 2025 season. Of course he is on a short leash and we must look competent in both halves of the season for his seat to not start glowing again. Go Gators!

Appreciate you saying something. I was just trying to type yourself. Not really sure where the apostrophe “s” came from. Good looking out. Anything football related to add?

It better get to 480 soon because 400lb gorillas probably get their asses whooped fairly consistently by 500 lb gorillas. If we are to accept that we lose to Texas, Georgia, and Bamer every single year, i guess we have to get use to it and let our coach know that 9 wins is the ceiling and we are good with that. We can only punch above our weightclass so far.

It's probably more important to let the fans know and some would argue that the UAA already has.

The thing is if not now, when?
    • An SEC schedule is always brutal. Are we really just waiting until we get UM off the schedule?
    • We have a Sr. laden O-line. Will their replacements be effective in 2026?
    • We have DJ Lagway for 2 more years and a nice RB roster for at least 2 more years. If the line isn't effective in 2026, where are the points/yards coming from? We already know that Napier's offense isn't terribly innovative.
Arguably, 2026 could be an even tougher year than 2025 if there is trouble on the OL. 2025 is the year. I hope that they can make some real strides that will keep interest in the program, keep recruiting in the top 10 or get better, and make 2026 an anomaly if there is a slight step back. I just hope this year's D is up to it. We took some significant losses on the side of the ball in the off-season.

So, you are prepared to move to Kiffen if Napier doesn't make the grade?

As I have posted plenty of times before, we go that route then I am out. Completely and cold turkey.

Wow, I feel so small...considering I am in the presence of true greatness.

    Just ask the author...

We beat Kiffy last year, not sure that would help at all. Texas got five 5*'s this last class, thats how you close the gap, not some scribbles on a sheet of paper. Talent, not schemes.

Nah, it takes both, although a doofus coach can win a bunch of games based on talent alone....just not the big one.

Coaches are important but there are less teams buying top talent than coaches who are able to run it. Get Napier top five classes for four years in a row and then we can truly judge. Sure, he has things to clean up but also with the most cash comes his choice of any coaches and players he wants. He is expected to beat higher priced staffs with higher priced rosters. It would take a football savant to do so.

The cookie monster has a ring! Talent goes a long way.

I agree with you though, for the most part.

The cookie monster also had a very talented DC and play-caller and left them alone to do their jobs. Maybe he isn't so dumb after all.
