Too bad the coaches don’t see it as clearly and unambiguously.

Hey, I might be wrong. My opinion is based on about 5 high school games that he played against really good competition, including the game in which he outplayed Nick Smith. He was set back somewhat by not getting to enroll at UF until the fall semester. Regardless, I think that all he needs is the playing time to excel. It might be that he needs the extra time that Jones gets, but TG is not willing to write off Jones just yet.

I cannot for the life of me, understand TG's reluctance to play a more aggressive style on offense and especially on defense. Nothing brings more energy to the crowd (and the team) than turnovers and points scored off of them.

I understand him not wanting to be crazy about it like Bob Huggins, but to seem to only use it as a last resort is concerning to me. Even more with him working under Pearl and seeing how that type of play has made Auburn a basketball school in a few short years. It would also seem like that style of play is an easy sell to recruits.

I also know that I know about .000000001 as much about basketball as TG, so I am sure he has his reasons if anyone would like to dumb it down for me please. Probably need a few more zeros in there.

You mention Pearl. Golden being present for the 1st and 2nd year of the rebuild at Auburn should be good experience for our situation.

Its a process. A lot of psychology and figuring out how pieces fit together. The 2nd half comeback should go a very long way for chemistry and confidence.

    At the 3 minute mark.

Reporter: Is pressure defense something you want to be a calling card of your team?
TG: We're not a big full court pressure team, I've never been a full court pressure coach, but certain games call for certain things.

Disappointing. I really like being a pressure defense, although not 100% of the time. I think TG is right that is frees the players up when you play that style. But I will defer to the coach. At least he will use pressure at times.

I agree with CTG on this. Full court press defenses are easily shredded these days by teams with 2 good guards. It works against freshman point guards and bad point guards, however.

Watching the game replay, I noticed during the timeouts that one of his assistants was doing all the talking not Hamilton so maybe you
    are correct.

I like a pressing team too, but what I took out of that quote is this: AWESOME that our coach can recognize when things need to change and make the needed change even if it is out of his comfort zone. That's great news.

exactly. Too many teams break the full court press more easily now. So much more emphasis on ball handling and passing in all 5 positions, tougher to find the weak spot and too often just results in easy buckets for the press-breakers

I’m not necessarily just talking about full court pressure, I am talking about playing an aggressive style defense. In order to play more up tempo on offense as well.

    Right. Exactly.

With respect to pressing, even coaches who love it don't always press. Donovan barely pressed after his first few years. Maybe ball pressure, but seldom full court press or press/trap. If it works for you and your team, then great. If you can use it in select situations to take advantage of matchups, like Golden did, great. But I am not so sure it makes that much of a difference in terms of winning or losing (and I bet the statistics bear that out).
