Mizzou was shut out in 3 games last weekend and they gave our staff all they could handle this weekend. It’s only going to get tougher for our pitchers. Offense needs to step up big time. We’re going to have to win high scoring games to be successful and can’t afford to wait for the third time through the lineup before we make offensive adjustments.
Thought Walsh had some good ABs today. Cleanup hitter needs to be productive or Charla won't be seeing any pitches to hit. She was walked twice today.
I was texting with the wife during the game and typed Gigante, but autocorrect changed it to Gigabyte. In my family from this point forward she shall be referred to as Gigabyte.
I agree, so did some other batters but Mizzou defense was positioned well (sec scouting reports) sprinkling hits here/there won’t get it done unless it’s going over the fence of course. Really need Falby to shine in SEC play and the rest of lineup as well.
And so shall it be in my household as well! I really love it, I’m usually good with coming up with nicknames for the ladies but I’d struggled with Gigabyte. Lol
No doubt on Falby. She is a key. Tough game today offensively, she did play well defensively. Could be wrong, but last I looked at the stats she was leading the team in Ks.
I want to see Pollard in the lineup on a regular basis. She can hit - just needs experience. Tied for the team lead in doubles in limited playing time.
That made so little sense that maybe it was supposed to be a suicide squeeze. It's not like Wallace was forced -- she was the only one on base when Charla was batting. Interesting to see CTW mind at work. With Pollard at bat, he had Gigante on deck to PH. But once Pollard got on base, Gigante went back to the dugout and Wilke PH. My guess is that he figured we could hold off on the power, play small ball, and was worried about a double play, given Gigante's versus Wilke's speed. And sure enough, Wilke moved the runner. Reading this thread, no one mentioned the number of times Missouri was one strike away from winning in the seventh. Two outs, two strikes on at least two different batters and at least a half dozen times overall. And yesterday, we did most of the damage with two outs. I like the "no quit" in this team.
Watching, I was amazed at the # of times we had 2 strikes on their batters and couldn't get the out. Just one foul ball after another. Only 4 walks for the game, but seemed like more and quickly ran up EHs pitch count.
None of our pitchers have that strikeout pitch you need against good hitters. That's why we only have 84 K's as a staff. That's last in the SEC by a long shot. Missouri is next to last with 152. 5 teams have over 200 K's.
Agreed, just bizarre that we easily get 2 strikes tho and can't put em away. At least hit a ground ball or something fair. Pitching inside, so I get some fouls, but still. Don't recall seeing a 50+ pitch first inn before either.
It might be a long season because we have no dominant pitcher which you really need in softball. Plus our pre-Sec schedule was so weak it didn't prepare us for good pitchers. We play 5 decent teams and our record against them 3-5. Sec is the best conference in softball.
Agree Missouri. We played more tomato cans this season than usual which led us to believe we were better than we are. Also, the loss of Goddard was a blow. Watched her batting second in the lineup during Tampa tournament and she was flat out crushing the ball. Thought she would add some depth to the lineup. And agree with most on this board that we don’t have an SEC level Ace on this staff. Hopefully we’ve got one or two coming in next year.
Wilkie is very good at the sacrifice and moving runner over was key in that situation. I also like the “no quit” in this team but I’d prefer they not be in that situation in the first place. As I said earlier I’ve already got enough grey hair lol. Also how big was Roe getting on base the previous inning? No score came from it but turned the lineup over just enough to allow Skylar to be Skylar in the 7th.
All those K’s are the only reason Skylar beats her in SB. Skylar is fast but doesn’t have Falby ludicrous speed. Just gets on base more so more opportunities.
