It's the second matchup with the Commodores and we need a repeat of the first where the Gators bested the Dores by a score of 61-55 on their homecourt. Gators need to keep up their scoring of the last game and build on it. We have reached the time of the year where teams need to jell as postseason approaches and that really holds true for the up and down Gators.

This is also a special day for Gator hoop's fans as the court will be named in the honor of Billy Donovan. Hoping the team gives him a big win for his special day.

    Go Gators!!!!!!

One thing is for certain, there will be at least one NBA coach in attendance

Hope that gives the team an added incentive to bring it, and play with energy and intensity. Let's rock the Dome!

    FLORIDA vs VANDERBILT

    When: Saturday, 8 p.m. (EST)
Where: Exactech Arena/O'Connell Center, Gainesville, Fla.
    Records: Florida (15-9, 7-4); Vanderbilt (9-15, 1-10)
TV: SEC Network (Richard Cross and Joe Klein)
Radio: Gator IMG Sports Network (Mick Hubert and Lee Humphrey)

    THE BASICS
    [IMG]
Former Florida coach and Gators icon Billy Donovan, now head coach of the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder, will make a triumphant return Saturday night when the floor at Exactech Arena/O'Connell Center officially will be named "Billy Donovan Court" during a halftime ceremony.
Florida and Vanderbilt meet for the second time this season on a night that surely will be emotionally charged by the homecoming of former UF coach Billy Donovan and the rebranding of the Exactech Arena/O'Connell Center floor in his honor. Former players (such as NBA stars Al Horford and Bradley Beal), plus past assistant coaches (Donnie Jones, Larry Shyatt among them) will be on hand for the halftime ceremony. ... UF bounced back from last weekend's lackluster effort in a loss at Ole Miss by going on the road Wednesday night and beating Texas A&M behind 52-percent shooting against one of the best defenses in the league. Vandy is coming off a 78-64 home loss against No. 12 Kentucky, a game the Commodores led by nine in the second half. ... Vanderbilt leads the all-time series 71-67, with UF closing the gap with its 61-55 road win on Feb. 1. In that one, the Gators rose from a poor-shooting first half to hit 48 percent in the second and open an 18-point lead just inside nine minutes left before the Commodores mounted a comeback that made things somewhat dicey late. Twice in the final minute Vandy crept within five points, but UF made free throws to close the game. Forward Keyontae Johnson led the Gators with 20 points and seven rebounds, while shooting guard Noah Locke threw in 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Florida made six of nine from long range after the break to built its lead. ... Florida is 4-6 vs. Vanderbilt under Coach Mike White, but with three straight victories (and four in the last five) after dropping the first five meetings on his watch.

    STARTERS (Probable Lineups)
    Florida
Pos. Ht. Wt. Class Per Game
    Keyontae Johnson F 6-5 225 Sophomore 13.3 pts / 6.9 reb
    Kerry Blackshear Jr. F 6-10 232 G-Transfer 13.5 pts / 7.9 reb
    Scottie Lewis G 6-5 187 Freshman 8.0 pts / 4.0 reb
    Noah Locke G 6-2 193 Sophomore 10.4 pts / 2.6 reb
    Andrew Nembhard PG 6-5 191 Sophomore 12.0 pts / 2.9 reb / 5.7 ast
Vanderbilt Pos. Ht. Wt. Class Per Game
    Dylan Disu F 6-9 220 Freshman 6.9 pts / 5.8 reb
    Ejike Obinna F/C 6-10 243 R-Sophomore 3.7 pts / 4.2 reb
    Saben Lee G 6-2 183 Junior 17.0 pts / 3.2 reb / 4.5 ast

    Maxwell Evans G 6-2 190 Junior 8.3 pts / 3.3 reb

    ONE TO WATCH
    [IMG]
Vanderbilt off-guard Maxwell Evans is averaging 8.3 points per game and definitely takes a back seat to the Commodores' two best scoring options in veteran Saben Lee and rookie Scotty Pippen Jr. But beware of this guy. In the first meeting against the Gators, Maxwell hit two huge late 3s that provided some dramatics the UF bench no doubt felt that was unnecessary. Apparently, those few minutes jostled Evans's confidence because four nights later he hit 10 of 18 shots, including seven of 12 from the 3-point line, on his way to a career-high 31 points, as Vandy shocked then-No. 18 LSU, unbeaten through eight league games at the time, to halt their dubious and record 26-game conference losing streak. The 6-foot-2 guard out of Houston is an X-factor that needs to be accounted for. If the defense gets casual with him, Evans is just streaky enough to make an opponent pay.

    TEAM BREAKDOWNS
    [IMG]
Sophomore shooting guard Noah Locke went 5-for-10 from the 3-point line at A&M and ran his consecutive game streak with at least one 3 to 22.
ABOUT THE GATORS: They're coming off what White deemed the best offensive performance of the year, after putting two solid halves together against a very good Texas A&M defense. UF shot 46.2 percent in the first half, then nearly 58 in the second, with 12-for-27 marksmanship from the 3-point line (44.4 percent). The Aggies rank at the bottom of the league in scoring and shooting, so holding them to less than 35 percent in the second was a huge achievement, but a 36-20 margin on the glass (14-9 on the offensive end) speaks to the collective effort. ... Florida is scoring 72.3 points per game, making 44.8 percent overall and 33.8 from the 3-point line.
Scottie Lewis (center) and teammates huddle up.
Defensively, the Gators give up 66.8 points, 41.4 percent and 31.7 from deep. ... Latest KenPom.com metrics place UF at 40th overall, 33rd in offensive efficiency and 72nd on the defensive end. ... Shooting guard Noah Locke, in banging five of his 10 long balls at A&M on his way to a season-high 21 points, is at 42.0 percent for the season, including 48.3 in league play. Locke has made at least one three in 22 consecutive games, which is the 10th-longest such streak in program history, with Dorian Finney-Smith and Matt Walsh (tied for eighth with 23 straight) next in his sights. … Point guard Andrew Nembhard, who has morphed into a top offensive option, has consecutive games of 25 points (career high vs Georgia), five (at Ole Miss) and 24 (at A&M). No surprise: UF is 2-1 in those games. His 89 shots is tops for the Gators the last seven games. He was 9-for-11 against the Aggies (including 6-6 in the second half), while scoring at all three levels. … Forward Keyontae Johnson carded his fifth double-double of the season (10 points, 10 rebounds), but also had a career-high six assists in one of his most complete games to date. If Nembhard is Option 1 on offense, Johnson has become Option 2. His 76 field-goal tries are second to Nembhard during that same seven-game span. … Forward Kerry Blackshear Jr., meanwhile, has double-digit shot attempts in just one of the previous seven games. He only took two shots at A&M, but went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. The Gators probably need some more low-post touches from him, but it's hard to argue with the efficiency on offense the last game. …Wing Scottie Lewis went 3-for-4 from the 3-point line last time out. He's at 34 percent on the season now, which ranks third on the team, but 44.0 percent in league play (second to Locke and Johnson). … Reserve freshman guard Tre Mann has hit just one of his last nine attempts from deep, but had a career-high five rebounds in 19 minutes against the Aggies. He's still at 24.2 percent from the arc, but does have at least one make in four of last five games. … Backup freshman forward Omar Payne had four rebounds but also three fouls and a turnover in 13 minutes at A&M. … Reserve freshman guard Ques Glover's minutes have come back to the pack, with just 20 over the last three games. He's got three points, one assist and eight turnovers in that span, as opposing defense send traps his way when he's in the game. Best way to prevent that is not turn it over, he's finding out. … Fourth-year junior and backup forward Dontay Bassett, out the last seven games with a leg bruise, did some non-contact work this week and may closer to being cleared to play. … ABOUT THE COMMODORES: In the first season under Jerry Stackhouse, the former NBA star-turned-G League Coach of the Year, the Commodores have persevered, despite
    [IMG]
    Scotty Pippin Jr.
losing standout guard and likely first-round NBA draft pick Aaron Nesmith to a season-ending foot injury. Nesmith was leading the league in scoring at the time, while also shooting better than 50 percent from both the floor and 3-point line. Vandy has thrown scares into some opponents (twice leading Kentucky well into the second half) and finally broke through — one game after falling to Florida — with that stunning 99-90 blowout of LSU. The Commodores got hot that night and can do so again, if the UF defense is not on point. … Vandy is averaging 72.3 points on 43-percent shooting and 33 percent from deep for the season, but in SEC play — where Nesmith competed for just one game before getting hurt — those numbers dip to 64.1 (13th in league), 38.2 (last) and 26.6 (also last). … KenPom places the Commodores at 175th nationalyl, 147th in offensive efficiency and 214th in defensive efficiency. … Guard Saben Lee is the league's No. 6 scorer at 17.0 per game and making nearly 48 percent of his shots to go with a team-high 139 free-throw attempts (74.8 percent) and also plays the other end (38 steals). … Guard Scotty Pippen Jr. is having a pretty good freshman year, alongside Lee, as the Commodores second-leading active scorer. Though just 6-1, Pippin can drive and finish in traffic (not like his father, but you get the idea), as well as make shots around the perimeter (33.3 percent from deep). He also gets to the line (129 free throws). … Forward Dylan Disu is Vandy's most prolific outside shooter, with 124 attempts from distance, versus just 42 attempts inside the arc. … Vandy is 0-6 on the road this season, with five of those losses in SEC play by an average margin of 13.8 points.

    NUMBERS WORTH NOTING
    [IMG]
Noah Locke (10), Keyontae Johnson (11) and Andrew Nembhard (2) not only are sophomore classmates and roommates, but they rank fourth, second and third, respectively, in scoring for the Gators, and are coming off a huge collective game in the win at Texas A&M.

    * .606 — Donovan's winning percentage in five seasons in the NBA, based on a 232-151 record.

    * .715 — Donovan's winning in 19 seasons at Florida, based on a 467-186 record.

    * 5 — UF players during White's five seasons to have games of at least 10 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, ala Johnson at A&M. He joined Finney-Smith, Chris Chiozza, Egor Koulechov and Blackshear.

    * 55 — Points (out of UF's 78) scored by the sophomore class of Nembhard, Locke and Johnson at A&M on a combined 21-for-37 shooting (56.7 percent) and 8-for-15 from distance (53.3 percent).

    * 2006 — The last year the Gators enjoyed a second consecutive sweep of a season series against Vanderbilt. UF won in Gainesville and Nashville during both the '05 and '06 SEC campaigns. The Gators are 15-12 vs. the Commodores since, including 9-2 at home.

I hate having the 2nd game. Too often it results in the 1st game dragging on.

    On another note...

...how about the astounding, astonishing, mind-bending, inconceivable (that word means what I think it means) UF women's lacrosse win at #1 Maryland today?

Maryland had an 86 home win streak going back to 2012. They've been the game that, no matter how good we were for the last 5-7 years, they would wax the crapola out of us.
