Our talent kept us in this game. With three THREE of our starters with one field goal until the last minute of the game when Lewis tipped in the put back, we were still in the game shooting 23% from 3 and 64% from the FT line. That show you there is major talent on this team. Johnson was outstanding, Blacksheer was major (although minimal minutes in previous games had him winded at the end of this one). Mann seems to love to compete and his playing time really needs to be reevaluated. He shot 75% from 3 on the road in a game against a top ten team. Locke disappeared was rushing his shot the entire night. Nembhard didn't really want to play it looked like. Was not driving, was not making crisp passes- just an all around clunker for him. He has been playing so well lately also. I thought of all players, he would have a big game today. Oh well. He's human!

The problem more recently has been much more than just games against Kentucky. I get your point, but add this game to the list over the last 5 years. It’s a long list.

Box score shows no playing time for Payne. I thought I saw him in the game. He, Bassett and Jitoboh were non factors.

The main reason we don’t play fast is because we get sloppy play when we play fast. Hell we play sloppy enough even at our modest pace. This crew just hasn’t gotten comfortable playing together consistently. Blame that on immaturity, coaching or whatever you want. It appears the coaches have settled on a style of play that minimizes our weakness and maximizes our chances. FWIW.

we are playing those moments without concern for fouling. We also turned it over twice in the final minute. We are exactly dazzling in those moments.

Mike White is going to live or die on a methodical offense. It is his stock in trade. He needs to start recruiting players who are half court specialists. I think Nembhard, Blacksheer, Locke and Johnson are suited for a half court offense, but for whatever reason, they cannot consistently produce in that framework. The rest of the team however, is better off up tempo. Lewis, Payne, Glover, Mann and Bassett are better running up and down the floor. In any event, you get better shots when you are pushing the tempo.

Locke and Lewis both didn’t play well, don’t think either one scored. White must not have any faith in Payne’s ability to play defense is what I’m guessing.

The difference in the outcome of this game was that the prayer 3 from Quickly at the buzzer bounced off the rim and went in. If it doesn't fall, we are within 1 point with the ball at the end of the game. Sometimes they fall your way, someone's they don't. It's not as though we are a better team than Kentucky and choked. We played well enough to win but one guy got hot and got a few favorable calls and that was the difference.

But is that really different from CBK anywhere else. We were up by 7 on the road in a tough environment and saw the lead slip away. We had it happen plenty under Billy against teams not named UK too. @ Arizona, Ole Miss (SEC Tourney), 2 Elite Eight games. I'm sure other fand from other programs could putntogether similar lists. UK lost an 18 point lead at USCjr earlier this year, they lost a 8 point lead at Auburn too.

I really thought Florida was going to isolate Johnson more as we could not guard him. Unfortunately you had a drought.

We got a few lucky shots and bounces going our way. The fumble passes under the hoop and Quickley’s lucky three at the top of the key.

The story will be different down here.

Kerry stared down too many shots. And each time he hesitated, the result of the possession was a disaster.

I don't often blame officials, but there were some real momentum killing calls that were made that helped spur a few of their runs. It wasn't necessarily the number of fouls or lack thereof, but more phantom calls at key moments that really hurt us.

I'd also like to see better shot selection from Ques and Kerry at times, particularly from 3.

Hope we get them at home.

This will be a good game film to build on. Little things can make a difference in a win and a loss.

Wow, for once, I actually agree with you. Our press is incredibly disruptive. Wish we would use it a lot more and a lot sooner.

    funny you say this...

i wS reading game thread on Rupps Rafters. At one point they were lamenting how their team can never handle success and always concede a lead.
If you’ve watched basketball long enough, you know it is very often a game of runs.
Speaking of AU - they trailed in the second half by 17. They went on an 18-0 run against Frank Martin and USC.
