After an awesome second half against UGA in which the Gators scored 55 points the question is can the Gators take that momentum and parlay it into consecutive good halves for this outing?

    THE BASICS
    [IMG]
The Pavilion at Ole Miss (capacity 9,500) opened in 2016 and is among the finest arenas in the Southeastern Conference.
Florida and Ole Miss usher in the second half of the Southeastern Conference, with both teams coming off big wins. The Gators fell behind in the second half by 22 at home Wednesday night against Georgia, but rallied to equal the largest come-from-behind victory in program history, storming back to claim an 81-75 win behind a career-high 25 points from sophomore point guard Andrew Nembhard and 60-percent shooting in the second half. The Rebels, meanwhile, went into Wednesday having dropped seven of their first eight league games, but then senior guard Breein Tyree dropped a career-high 38 points on South Carolina, winner of three straight (and five of six), to win 84-70 at home. ... UF and Mississippi, paired off as rotating conference foes this season, met Jan. 15 in Gainesville, where the Gators won, 71-55, behind 15 points and six rebounds from sophomore forward Keyontae Johnson, plus 13 points and nine boards from grad-transfer forward Kerry Blackshear Jr. In that one, UF led by 11 early, but Ole Miss went on a tear by making 10 of 15 shots to move in front by three, before the Gators got hot down the stretch of the first half to lead by 12 at the break, thanks to 60-percent shooting for the period. Florida, though, can take absolutely nothing from that game, given the Rebels were without Tyree (back bruise), as well as starting power forward Khadim Sy (coach's decision). Both will be available this game. ... UF leads the all-time series 67-46, including a 5-1 record under Coach Mike White, who was a four-year starter at point guard for the Rebels from 1995-99. This will mark White's third road trip back to face his alma mater. He's 1-1 in Oxford.

Gators still looking for more consistency
    Gvl Sun Graham Hall
Wednesday’s second-half comeback, which saw the Gators climb out of a 22-point hole in the second half to down Georgia, was full of atypical aspects. Florida shot 7-for-11 from three-point land, switched to its seldom-used 3-2 zone defense and scored 17 points off the Dawgs’ mistakes while committing just three turnovers of its own in claiming an 81-75 victory. Simply put, the win seemed incomprehensible until it wasn’t.

“We’re a unique team, to say the least,” White said. “I haven’t been a part of a team like this. I think that the makeup of our team, the personality of our team is that we can be emotional, the way that we react to each other at times. The way that we react to adversity, to the other team making a run, to officials. You name it.”

While that emotional personality did propel the Gators (14-8, 6-3 SEC) to go on a 37-5 run in the second half, it led to the deficit, too. It’s an issue White and the team’s veteran leaders have certainly lambasted throughout the season, yet one that has seen improvement as of late.

“Last week more than anything, I think. We had a big meeting and talked about kind of regulating each other and regulating our emotions and stuff like that so I think it’s been better the last week,” point guard Andrew Nembhard said. “We can still improve though.”

We have had "one step forward, one step back" periods and unfortunately a "one step forward, two and 2/3rds step back" period. Are we prepared to get into, and remain in, drive?

I am beginning to believe that, while this is AN's team, the mental piece HAS to come from KJ until SL is prepared to help. He still needs some more seasoning.

And hopefully, for a real run in March, Mann's light (really confidence) is finally lit for good.
