Championship game against Bama in Tuscaloosa? It was going to be an uphill battle no matter what.
We call that the "Saban Affect".
Absolutely ridiculous how they've put 0 game pressure on her.
Gators were just outmatched at the plate today.
Fouts is the best pitcher in the nation when she’s on. And our offense struggles when they don’t manufacture people on base by walks and HBP.
Seems like Walton has had a lot of recruiting misses the last 4-5 years when it comes to hitters.
Yet is a Top 4 team that won the SEC regular-season title and reached the Tournament Championship Game? lol
Fouts is beatable. She’s just been on fire this tournament.
The strike zone is darn near at the ankles. lol
I’m not saying this is a bad/mediocre team. Walton is still a great coach and we always at least have solid pitching, great defense, and ways to manufacture offense every year. But Walton pulls in top 3 recruiting classes every year and we haven’t had consistent hitters other than 2-3 players every year for some time now.
Agree Gators beat her earlier in the year in Tuscaloosa.with Hightower.
The Florida pitching did its job today. You take away the 2 runs scored in the first inning due to errors and blunders and Alabama wins this game 2-0.
Fouts was just straight dealing and it happens.
They can have the tournament, if it means possibly beating them at the WCWS when it counts. Like what happened in 2019.
See post #62.
Softball is an equivalency sport, not a headcount sport. CTW has spent his limited resources wisely IMHO.
The 2nd season starts in 5 days-Get ready to go Gators!
As someone who hasn't followed much softball this year, what does next season's team look like. Seems like we could use a dominant pitcher. We have several solid ones from what I have seen, but definitely no Barnhill, Haeger, Nelson, etc.
Agree, we won the real SEC Championship.
We have the #2 rated high school pitcher in the nation coming in next year, Lexi Delbrey, from Bainbridge, GA. And I expect Rylee Trlick to be a force next season. She was one of the Top 2 or 3 pitcher in the nation in her recruiting class. Skylar Wallace, who transferred from Alabama and had to sit out this season, is a really good hitter and will probably take the SS position. We only lose Lindaman, Hoover and Chronister, unless other girls transfer out or hang it up. There's 3 other girls in this year's recruiting class and one of them is a Top 30 player. Look, also, for Walton to try to find a hitter or 2 in the Transfer Portal.
Congrats to Alabama for their win. Fouts was amazing!
The 2 things are not mutually exclusive. I don't think anyone can argue the hitting was abysmal in 2019, and there is virtually no hitting in the bottom half of the order or on the bench this year. Not to mention 2 of the kids that can actually swing it are transfers...pretty clear recruiting of hitters has been off of late. To be honest it's amazing they have accomplished what they have.
Thanks... that is very encouraging. I remember reading about Rylee but was surprised to not see much about her this season. To be honest though I haven't followed very closely this year.
