    Florida Versus Vanderbilt Basketball Preview

    With the Florida Gators (12-5, 3-1 SEC) riding high on a three-game winning streak, they’ll now have a few days to prepare for what could be the toughest game on their SEC schedule–a road bout with 16-0 Vanderbilt.

    The Commodores will have a game against Texas between the publishing of this article and their bout with the Gators.

    If you haven’t been following college basketball closely this year it might come as a surprise that the Vanderbilt Commodores have been one of the best teams in basketball who is now being discussed as a National Championship contender and by extension a favorite to win the SEC. Picked all the way back at 11th in the SEC preseason poll there weren’t many people to expect the surge, though some media names like Kevin Sweeney, Will Warren, Blake Lovell, and Neil Blackmon predicted the stellar year for the Commodores.

    What I hate is the way ESPN schedules these games. Kentucky/Tennessee comes on at Noon and with the UF/Vandy game set to start at 2 pm, we'll miss the first several minutes of the game, just like we did with the Oklahoma game a few days ago. Sometimes they start the game on another channel, but other times not. They KNOW these games almost always take longer than 2 hours, so why not adjust their broadcast schedules to allow for the earlier games to be finished?

    Because it's all about maximizing commercials, IMO. So what if the Florida/Vanderbilt folks have to sit on their hands and wait (and watch more commercials) before their game finally starts?

    Yep - My wife has said for years that TV is all about the ads and they just design TV programs so that people will see as many ads as they can tolerate to watch their favorite shows. Being able to stream, save and fast forward through commercials is a big bonus, but when you want to watch an event live (like Gator sports) we have to suffer through the commercials.

    Now the NCAA is "speeding up the games" . . . which sounds well and good and for the fans' benefit but just means less actual playing time for the fans to watch . . . but more commercials. It's a very common complaint in the football OGTs.

    I agree..I have my YouTube to record Gator Basketball..it missed the beginning of the game

    On home football games..I get to watch the ref on the field holding the countdown clock lol

    Fired up today, a win on the road against this team would demonstrate UF is postured to compete and claim an SEC regular season title.

    Yep, same here. I like recording the games when I cant watch live and I can skip commercials, but in recent cases Ive had to go to ESPN and watch the replay (commercials tho).

    I read a few years ago the average person sees about 15,000 advertisements every day if you include billboards, street signs, store signs as well as the normal TV, paper flyers and internet pages. I'm sure it's worse now. Or better depending on your POV.

    Seems like the length of the games comes down to how many REVIEWS of fouls, out of bounds, 3 seconds, goal tending, over and back, out of bounds, flagrant 1 or 2, and players who don't have their shirts tucked in! Ha!
