My memory may fail me sometimes. I think that guy brought his angled grill to our fraternity house and cooked for us. I remember it being amazing.

    Melrose native here!

Blue Water Bay was the first job I ever had - washing dishes there back in '86 (only a few blocks from my home). Place burned down years later, but they rebuilt it and since then I've been in there and the inside looks almost exactly the same as I remembered in the 8o's (except the kitchen is different).

Lake Santa Fe is a dark water lake - lots of gators and other creatures all around/in the lake - but my friends and I water-skied and kneeboarded the heck outta that lake back in the day.

The first lake I ever skied on in FL was Santa Fe. We put the boat in at the ramp on SR 26, and having just moved here from MN, I thought "what the heck???" All I could think of was those crappy schlockey B-movie horror flicks as a kid. I was certain a giant gator was coming out of the water and going to swallow me whole.:D. One of my jobs in college was for IFAS (college of agriculture) and our department put on alligator production conferences for the alligator farmers throughout the state. I studied those handout materials probably harder than I did for my EcoStats final. I bought a weekend place on Cue Lake about 20 years ago and that lake is almost swimming pool clear. Gators don't like clear lakes as they like the cover that the swamp lakes give them, not to mention the dark lakes have a much better food supply. If you like lakes, Melrose is the place to be for sure.

I went there back in the 70s - was a real nice place to take a date - a true break from the college scene in Gainesville. Place must have been relatively new back then.

Gotta chuckle about this. . . . was at the Garth Brooks concert last weekend - my 2nd time in the Swamp in 30 years - and asked my wife if they passed people up at Purdue (she's a Boilermaker). She didn't know what I was talking about.

I'll add to the restaurants the original Sonny's and Tony and Pat's.

    10) for sure.

Hello! Been a long time viewer of GC. This thread really warmed my heart. I was at UF from 1986-2001. I stretched out my college days for as long as I could. Have not missed too many football games since 1986. Now my oldest is finishing her first year.

Read most of these list here really brings back memories.

Surprised no one has mentioned Falafel King! Originally next to original Burrito Bros. Still going strong in old Butler Plaza where Ashleys used to be. Still the best gyros using tahini vs tziki!
