From my understanding the old program wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t elite. It’s really hard to build individualized plans so they basically had 3 tiers: gain, maintain, lean out. You would get a hot box meal based on those 3 categories and your individual weight goals.

That kind of plan generally works well and is very efficient and easy to manage because you mass produce the boxes and players grab and go. The downside is that if a player needs specific targets for calories and the kind of calories (split between carbs/fats/proteins) you can’t tailor it to the position groups or players. That’s what’s changing. I’ve heard before at Bama they even analyze your sweat and adjust your meal plan accordingly. I’m assuming that’s where we’re going.

It might have closed earlier than intended because of the pandemic, but the building was already scheduled for demolition. That building, the gas station on the corner are gone, and the lot will be the site of a new building for the School of Music.

Thanks for your observation and I agree. There is a difference between good, better and best. Some people seem to think the only categories are "awesome" and "suck".

He's been with Higdon for a while. Not sure if he still is. What kinda drama happened here? I can't recall.

Kadeem Telfort would not have done well under this staff. I noticed he is at UAB now and played in their bowl game.

It’s crazy - Diabate was one S&G podcast and said there’s no good places to eat in Gainesville, and I was thinking he’s not wrong. I mean there’s tons of chains but basically most places with character that are unique to Gainesville are gone or never existed in the first place.

De La Torre kept saying Embers was the place but Diabate is like dude that’s crazy expensive for a normal meal and/or student, lol. I agree if the best you can do is a high end steakhouse that you might get a couple times per year that’s not really good.

Mi Apa was the other one thrown out, and although I like it compared to Latin places around the area, it’s not really even comparable with a random Cuban place in Miami.

On one hand shopping in Gainesville is better than ever but the whole chain restaurant vibe is basically a low rent Orlando.

...It's like what one would expect when you pay someone millions of dollars to do a job.

Yet somehow, the last 3 guys seemed to think they were getting paid multiple millions of dollars because they'd already earned it somehow....

    Quite refreshing.

Thank you Coach Napier for respecting the gravity of the position you've been entrusted with, which so far, appears to be at least, if not even more than, commensurate than what you've been paid.

I highly recommend Satch Squared (Satchel's) at 4th Ave food park. And Prum's Kitchen on west side of Main just south of University. Great food but not hangouts, although being outside in the food park is nice when weather is good and they have music sometimes.

When y'all come up to Knoxville in the fall, dial me up for some good recommendations. Good little food and beer scene here.

If and when Satchel’s dies, all remnants of my college days will be gone. It is the only one left of the places I frequented.

A coach from a small school had to bring the knowledge and urgency to our athlete’ nutrition.

Who learned it from big schools. Which we should be learning from through open channels and intelligence gathering including hiring their staff regularly. Time to stop living in a bubble time to start evolving and expanding.
