This is great news for the country and means that everyone is a little more safe today than they were yesterday

If the homicide rate had increased, righties would be licking their chops ready to blame Biden. So since the homicide rates have decreased, I think it’s only fair to say “Thanks Biden!”

It’s more guns and relaxed gun laws that has caused the drop. Thanks everyone.

If the homicide rates had increased, righties wouldn’t be blaming “everyone” they’d solely be blaming Biden.

    I’m conclusion, thanks Biden!

Selected information to spin a narrative. Homicide rate down in major US cities following huge jumps during the pandemic.
AXIOS is doing its best to help drag Biden across the finish line. Some remarks:

Essentially, this headline could truthfully say "We were killing the hell out of each other during the pandemic in major US cities but now it's not as bad."
Per 538 (hardly a Right-wing source): homicides are at historically low rates over the last 50 years. HINT: stronger economy, less stress and fewer murders. The relatively short window of reference (3 or 4 years) is a clue. what's next? "Homicide rate down HUGE on Monday after weekend surge!" Thanks, Biden!

Incomplete information news is FAKE NEWS... How many big cities stopped forwarding murder statistics to the FBI?

All one big lie. It started shortly after crappy pants took over in the WH.

Your political slant is evident in your post. What does the word decades mean to you?

I know this is a bit much to ask, but you could read the short article.

Nothing to do with the FBI and a comparison of city-to-city numbers...

204 major cities. As they pointed out, the current rates would be amongst the lowest since we started collecting this sort of data.

The projection is astounding. Trump just shat his own pants during court....so Rick starts insinuating that of Biden. What's next - Biden wears orange makeup and fake tan bronzer?

Not only that, the [fictitious] explosion in violent crimes is largely attributable to the "invasion" of illegal aliens.
Trump says migrants are fueling violent crime.

That's okay. More important is factual and impartial sharing of information. Again, anyone who has taken a basic course in statistics knows that you take a sampling of "major cities" and limit it a few years (COVID then and now) and you can come up w/ almost anything....as AXIOS did in this creative writing example. Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

    Decades: tens of years.

Great. And, as often pointed out when Trump was in office on various positive trends, there has been downward trend since the 1980's in the murder rate, per the 538 website.
    So, thank Reagan.

The same info can be found in numerous articles if Axiis isn't your favorite. Regardless the outcome remains the same

    1. I don't disagree.
    2. I'm glad the homicide rate is declining.
    3. I'm wary of statistics - and giving too much credit and or blame in the ensuing - that use a very small sample size (in this case, time). For example, a similar article could written as such: "Interest rates more than double under Biden from 2020 - 2024" even though the rates were at historic lows just proceeding his presidency. https://www.bankrate.com/mortgages/historical-mortgage-rates/#current-rates

Would you think someone who dropped 3 pounds the week after Thanksgiving was on to some phenomenal weight loss program? No - because they ballooned five pounds at Thanksgiving. Yes, somewhat silly example but the point is made: changes in a short time frame do not necessarily equate to great policies.

Funny, I didn't have to read the thread to know what the responses would be. Very predictable.
