In case you missed the alert....This just in from GatorCountry's @Efawcett7 -

In a bizarre series of events, newly hired assistant coach Armon Gates has departed the Gators and has been hired by head coach Tim Miles and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Gates was hired on April 8 and has already been out on multiple recruiting trips, and many recent Florida offers to players in the northeastern and mid-western states (Gates’ comfort zone) would suggest that his fingerprints were already all over the Gators’ recruiting strategy. In the midst of an important time of the year in terms of recruiting, head coach Mike White now is back on the search for an assistant, a role that is likely going to be significantly more difficult now than it was 6 weeks ago when Dusty May was hired to Florida Atlantic, opening up the assistant job.

Gates’ departure had been rumored for nearly a week as speculation from Nebraska media sources praised the hire before their was even word of him leaving Gainesville. Though it was considered to be a done deal by many for the last several days, even without official word, Gates’ removal of any reference to coaching at the University of Florida from his Twitter bio on Thursday afternoon was considered the de facto announcement.

I half suspect that UF plays by different self imposed rules when it comes to recruiting. Gates is used to a different mindset and set of permissible tactics. They are mutually exclusive. UF /CMW had to set him straight on proper procedures. Gates probably realized he’d fail at recruiting with that methodology and and UF wasn’t going to compromise so UF suggested finding a different program/ better fit.

At the very least, this side show and drama keeps this board active in the off season!

Who’s on Mike White’s short list of candidates?

Wonder if he’s added a few more additional interview questions, now, too? Maybe that’s the question to ask coach as a means of discerning what transpired with Gates?

Certainly street cred for a long career in the league but can he coach?

I'm pretty excited that as of right now (1322 0n 4MAY) at least 2 voters think this was all a nefarious plot concocted by Dennis Gates and Leonard Hamilton, no doubt some sorta misguided collaborative effort to distract college hoops fans from the ending of F$U's EE game and Hamilton's exceedingly bizarre post-game interview! o_Oo_Oo_O

Gates recruited in the Chicago area and I am from there. I am leaning toward the second option, but I am pretty sure that it will always be the last option.

Interesting article on Udonis posted just today (May 8th), in fact, that provides some insights into UD's current thoughts and values and his perspective on having played the role of mentor the last few seasons with the Heat. The article also makes reference to his previous statements that evidently "downplayed (his interest in?) a role in coaching..." Overall a nice read on a Gator great!

I voted for Plot because today, storylines have become so widespread due to various media outlets.

It doesn't matter why, neither in the short, nor long run.
