North Korean officials did not turn up to Thursday’s scheduled meeting with the US military about repatriating the remains of the war dead, according to a US official with knowledge of the situation.
The two sides had been expected to discuss at the Korean Peninsula’s demilitarized zone (DMZ) the return of US troop remains from the 1950-1953 war – an arrangement that the State Department had announced after Secretary Mike Pompeo’s visit to Pyongyang last Friday and Saturday. State Department officials had said that the meeting would likely take place on July 12, though they added that the date could shift.

On Thursday, however, Department of Defence and United Nations Command officials were left waiting in the DMZ’s Joint Security Area. The expected North Korean officials never arrived, according to the official who requested anonymity as he was not permitted to talk publicly about the event. “We were ready,” the official said. “It just didn’t happen. They didn’t show.”

It was not immediately clear why North Korean officials had not attended the meeting or whether they had ever confirmed their intention to. The State Department did not respond to a request for comment.

So they have still shown zero interest in getting rid of nuclear weapons and they still have remains of U.S. military in their possession. Other than that, I'd say that the Trump-Kim summit was wildly successful.

The remains have already been returned. Trump said so in a Cabinet meeting.

That's pretty low, for some reason I thought the remains were already turned back over to us. But I guess that was on me for actually buying even a little bit of Trump's self-hype.

Hopefully this was just some type of miscommunication and not NK being NK. Because this would be pretty low even for them.

Trump claimed that 200 remains were returned last month, but apparently that wasn't true.

My guess is Kim realized Trump's ego could be used against him to bolster his own standing in NK. He played Trump for a chump.

NK snubbed USA? I'm shocked, I tell you, simply shocked. And in a related story, water is wet. News at 11.

Well, that was a short love affair.

The one concession we got out of the whole spectacle, and now the NK's are apparently reneging.

I'd be surprised if NK actually had any American remains from the Korean war. If we ever get anything, I bet it will be nothing verifiable as genuine.

You are forgetting to mention that we got verifiable discontinuation of Iran's nuclear weapons program complete with inspectors, they gave up 98% of their enriched uranium, discontinued 75% of their centrifuges, put a 15 year halt on new facilities, etc., etc. ... ... it's amazing the stuff righties "forget" to mention sometimes ....
