GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 8 Florida downed in-state foe UNF, 10-2 (5), Wednesday night at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium behind a season-high 11 hits by eight different players.

The Gators (5-1) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead over the Ospreys (2-3) in the bottom of the 1st inning. Senior catcher Jordan Roberts dealt the biggest blow with her monstrous three-run home over the center field camera platform.

Freshman Julia Cottrill and sophomore Cheyenne Lindsey were the only two Florida players to amass multi-hit games. Cottrill went a career-high 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a run scored, while Lindsey went 2-for-3 for her second multi-hit game of the year.

In the circle, freshman left-hander Rylee Trlicek (2-0) hurled 3.0 inning for the Gators and limited UNF to just six hits and two runs, while sophomore Elizabeth Hightower cleaned up the final two frames without allowing a hit.

McGory Hits Two RBI Double at No. 11 Florida
    UNF Athletics
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - No. 8/11 Florida used a big first inning to take a lead it never relinquished and went on to defeat North Florida, 10-2, in five innings Wednesday.

    Pitchers of Record:
    How it Happened:
    • In the first inning the Gators got on the board thanks to a hit and a walk followed by a homer from Jordan Roberts for a 3-0 lead.
    • Following a pitching change, Florida added on four more before a final pop out ended the inning.
    • In the second, UF pushed its lead to 8-0 on an RBI walk.
    • Thanks to Kayla McGory's double in the third, North Florida closed the gap to 8-2. Back-to-back singles put two on before a sac bunt moved the into scoring position. McGory sent her first double of the season to left field to bring in the two runs.
    • The home team extended their lead with a run in the third and fourth to make it a run rule game.

Gators Run Ruled the Ospreys in their season home opener but after the drama on Tuesday versus USASoftball, tonight was a couple of notches down, the kids played hard and well the crowd IMO was sparse even for a midweek game. The Bats (flying kind) put in an appearance and Gator batters struck for 11 hits.

Florida run-rules UNF in first home game of regular season
    Graham Marsh, Alligator Sports Writer
It was a senior versus a freshman.
Fourth-year catcher Jordan Roberts stepped up to the plate for Florida with infielders Hannah Adams and Charla Echols on first and second, respectively. UNF’s freshman pitcher, Hailey Raulerson, tried to squeeze it past her.

    She failed.

Roberts smashed it well past the wall at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium for the three-run homer. It was the initial thud that set off the avalanche of runs for the Gators in the bottom of the first inning.

That home run, along with runs from outfielder Jade Caraway, right fielder Jordan Matthews, catcher Julia Cotrill and shortstop Sophia Reynoso, put coach Tim Walton’s group up a commanding 7-0 by the end of the first inning in UF’s 10-2 run-rule domination over UNF (2-3) on Wednesday. This contest commenced the Gators 2020 regular season at home, improving their regular season record to 5-1. “I thought our internal energy was good,” shortstop Sophia Reynoso said. “In the dugout and on the field I think that we could all feel each other.”
Freshman Rylee Trlicek started the day in the circle for Florida. Through three innings, she gave up two runs, both in the third. In her home, the Hallettsville, Texas, native allowed just two runs on six hits. Next up in the circle for Florida was sophomore Elizabeth Hightower. The second-year pitcher allowed one run through two innings.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, freshman Baylee Goddard finished what Roberts started. The Jacksonville native was walked with the bases loaded, sending outfielder Cheyenne Lindsey home to push the 9-2 lead to 10-2, allowing the possibility of a run-rule in the fifth inning.
