That's good to hear because the write up reminded me of Ballard, who was also a top 75 prospect. Athletic is great, but you want a kid that can do at least one thing well on the offensive end (shoot, handle, pass, finish) initially while they work on other aspects of their game.

With Blackshear, Nembhard, and Lewis, I count three more or less assured openings.

Others have suggested that Mann should be added to that list.

And of course we can’t rule out a transfer, maybe in the backup center category.

So no idea if we are done, but we are already “over” by two here.

Let me start by saying that I trust coach whites player evals emphatically. But let's not pretend we're playing in the conference USA. If you don't have a jump shot as a guard especially an off the ball guard, you usually become a liability in the half court. Personally, I think coach white has more to hang his hat on than speedy Smith. Chiozzas development comes to mind when thinking of guards that improved their jumper with this staff.

Lanes jumpshot is much improved already, he is a better player then Ballard period. Ballard was a hot and cold kid who could play some defense when he wanted to. This guy will be a top 40 or so type by the end of the year. Keep getting told he is closer to 6'7 now also which is awesome to hear.

Seems these ratings services are always weary of giving a big boost to a kid's ranking when he's a late bloomer. It's like they have a top 50 when the kids are in 8th grade and barely change them. There are a lot of under the radar kids with talent out there, guys that got much better with age. Seems (hope) he's one of them.

    Agree.
I didn’t meant to prop up Speedy as the only example of White’s developmental success. There are many others, including Cheese.
The point was... i think white loves the attributes of length, athleticism, work ethic and motor above others. Those are tough, if not impossible, things to teach.
He can... and has... improved other areas of the game, such as passing and shooting.
I used Speedy as an example bc his 0-20 start was a good illustration. And though C-USA, that kid could’ve played about anywhere by the time he finished his career.

Should be a great motor guy and top defender. Has to continue to work on shot and free throw percentage, but incredibly athletic
