There was a lot of discussion under the Fabian string about starting P's next year. Most conversation was on the 3 main returners, Mace, Leftwich and Dyson. Thought I'd start a prediction line for all to place their bets on the biggest "new" contributors for 2019.
    The candidates are:

Juniors (3): Baker, Garcia, K McMullen
Sophs (4): Butler, Gordon, Maye, H McMullen
Redshirt Tommy Johns (3): Blasucci R-Jr, Milchin R-So, Ruth R-Fr
Juco's (2): Alintoff So., Hemenway So.
Fresh (5): Armstrong, Pogue, Luethje, Scott, Specht
    HS (1): Crisp

Let's hear your "Top 5" predictions of contributors outside Mace, Leftwich and Dyson.

This will make for good discussions--great post--

    H. McMullen
    Butler
    Ruth
    Blasucci
    Milchin
I'll always have to pull for our guys that are coming back from "TJ" surgery--I first hand witnessed Alan's frustrations, struggles, hard work, and then successes--for me anybody that's got the sand to go through that and come back deserves our support 100%--

Have any been turned into submariners?
If so, they can have a role as long reliever ala Falkenbach....or, spot relief.

    Heard good things about Ruth.
    Hunter might become the closer.
    Maye is a big lefty.
    Milchin is a big righty.

    Butler, of course.

    Who’s the top rated freshman?

So hard to guess on the tommy John guys, but Ruth my pick if healthy.
I really think Hunter Mc makes a big leap as well....very curious to see what role he slides into

More importantly, who emerges as the closer next year?

I'm with you on H.McMullen--looking forward to seeing him this coming season--
If his "TJ" re-hab has gone well I agree with @apkgator--Ruth has a ton of upside--I'm anxious to see what happens there--

The McMullens graduated from my high school, Ocala Forest. They have been highly thought of for awhile and were part of several deep runs in the playoffs. I hope Hunter stands out this year and Kirby steps up into middle relief.

    87--

Hunter looks to me to have that extra gear that would serve well in the closer roll--if he commands that kind of confidence, swagger, and gun fighter's stare it will be fun to watch the bullpen gate swing open and him enter our games--perhaps to "Hell's Bells"--

Wish I had a song title for you but I do know most of the Forest baseball players tend to like Country.

LOL--Alan growing up in Marianna loved Classic Vinyl and Country alike--I always thought there was a message there for the visiting team when he came out to start a game to "Hell's Bells"--guess I caught myself reminiscing--;)

FWIW Hunter Ruth is currently in his 15th month of rehab for TJ surgery.

I kind of think he turns out into a Shaun Anderson type. Guy that closes in college and then gets moved to SP after being drafted.

Very possible....I remember a young Anderson throwing in a game at UCF and couldn't throw a strike. Sully and staff really developed him and I think Hunter could follow suit

I am thinking that Butler will be out of the mix for starters.

We have recently had closers that didn't have high heat with a lot of movement as their out pitches. Weird because that is the template for closers usually. Instead we had really good sliders.

Do we continue the trend with Butler, who has a great curveball and an OK fastball? Maybe. But I think that in a perfect world he would be the set-up man most games and occasionally be the lefty you bring in to pitch to a particularly nasty lefty in a crucial at bat..

I'm with Lurk on this one--I like him better in the set-up role--

Ok but Sully was insistent Ruth would be ready for next year and Ruth is a hard thrower who was flashing a fastball at 96-97.

I feel like he will be also--just not at the start of the season--Alan had his struggles early in the first part of the season still "getting his work in"--his 24 month window was April and he really took off, winning 9 straight--I'm just a realist on this time line for power guys--I truly wish him the best--
