PET plastic, which is widely used in food packaging (milk, water & soft drink bottles, for example), has a new method to break it down for recycling. Korean scientists discovered a biocatalyst that breaks down the plastic. Previously, the recycling efforts largely depended on re-using it by shredding it and putting in asphalt. I don't think that PET easily melts for re-use like polyethylene. Not my area of expertise, but interesting.
