It’s been reported that former Gators DB coach and recruiting coordinator, Chuck Heater, has been added to Florida’s off field staff as a QC guy. I can’t seem to find anything online about Heater being let go by Maryland, but with the coaching turnover there would make sense.

Heater is up there in years, but was a big part of several of Florida’s best classes under Meyer. If this is true, great to see Mullen continuing to build out a staff that can really compete with top programs both in terms of strength and depth, something we’ve been lacking in the past.

Can anyone confirm this news? Candy?

He should have been a pitcher with that name. Hard to catch up to the pitch when you chuck the high heat.

My Grandpa was in the infantry during WWII. They called him “heater” because he threw grenades like a baseball.
True story. At least that is what he told people

Great family story. Thanks to your Grandpa for his service if he is still around. I think you are supposed to throw grenades more like a Kareem sky hook shot, but, if the heater worked, more power to him!

Maybe in a pinch, but thrilled to have a guy that knows how to run a top tier recruiting program. Another great move by CDM.

Thanks man. He passed about 5 years ago but I knew him into my late twenties.
In my imagination he took a crow-hop and hit a kraut in the head with it as it exploded. Fought in North Africa and Italy for almost two years but is probably the most gentle man I ever met. He had an old garand M1 that he taught his sons to shoot with. I remember him taking that thing apart, cleaning it and reassembling it so fast. It seemed like just a few minutes.
Unlike many vets he didn’t mind telling a story. But you could tell the ones that were embellished because the ones that weren’t he got really quiet and hesitant. The rest were just brash and probably 50% fact and 50% fiction

Chuck Heater is a really good teacher of the defensive back position. Should be a great hire for evaluating recruits and scouting opponents. He is also a really good guy

Awesome. I hope one of the boys in your family kept the M1 Garand.

My dad was a bomber pilot in the Korean War. He is 89 and in decreasing health now, so, I am trying to get all of those kind of stories out of him while I can.

The M1 Garand is my favorite rifle. I have a few that have been converted to .308, and they rock. Wish they could tell a few stories, so be sure to get as many stories as you can from your dad.
