Would you support a Constitutional Amendment that says that no one should be elected President if he has reached the age of 70 on inauguration day?

And for the sake of this discussion lets say that Trump and Biden are exempt from this amendment.

No. If people want to vote for geriatrics, that should be their choice.

I would not support it. I would support an amendment that a candidate has to release their tax returns however

We have age limits on the younger side? Should we eliminate them?

Yes, There is a lower limit for a reason. Lack of experience and mental development. There should be an upper bound as well for the same reason. Mental decline starts in the 30s and there are many studies that show 70ish it really kicks into high gear. Ive seen this unfortunately in my own family.

Ultimately I have to say no. I would really rather have a younger president but there may be times, like in 2020, that an older candidate may be the best viable candidate. Also there are many 70 year olds that are very mentally acute.

Reagan was 69 years and 354 days when inaugurated.

I believe in democracy. If the voters want to support a Tik Tok President, okay. The answer is for people to persuade the voters to support the right candidate, not take the choice away. I have a strongly negative opinion of Ron DeSantis, but I don't think the answer for dealing with him is to change the law to prevent him from running. It's to persuade voters to not reelect him. If they disagree and choose to reelect him, I'll be unhappy with that choice, but you don't always get what you want in a democracy.

I dont want a 21 year old with the nuclear launch codes. People are not informed enough to have complete control over their government. I support democracy, but there are limits to how much power I want the masses to have.

After Donald Trump, that doesn't scare me. If the people want a 21 year old, that's their call.

My preference is to keep an age range to ensure minimum life experience and minimize risk of mental decay. However, I think the voters generally do a good job of it save the past two elections. And if we removed the minimum age threshold I don’t think even someone as dynamic as Obama would get elected at 30 much less 25.

Let's have an amendment to abolish the Electoral College first.

I need to see the age of posters in here first. I have a good idea which posters are incompetent and I’ll be able to see if there is a correlation to age.

How about.. gerrymandering and dark money? Those are more a risk than old people to democracy.

No, because people are living longer and quality of life continues to improve. An arbitrary age cap is not needed. It’s also why we have a succession laid out in the 25th amendment.

There will be a point of contention 1,000 years from now when people can upload their minds to some central computer. I digress…

With Donald Trump, we basically had an 8 year old with the launch codes.
