Get ready for more 8 yard cushions guys. Hopefully they recruit well so when TG gets fired in 2025 we have some players for a good DC to use.

Having to live in Columbus it’s difficult not to hear / know about Buckeye coaches. I remember when Chris Ash arrived at Ohio State. Urbs had poached him away from Wisconsin. I remember the defense doing very well when he came on board which helped him land the head coaching gig at Rutgers. He wasn’t much of a head coach but he seems to know defense. Here’s part of his bio from the Texas website.

“Ash was hired by Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer in January 2014 to improve a Buckeye defense that placed 110th nationally in pass defense and 46th in total defense in 2013. In his first season, OSU’s defense ranked 19th nationally in total defense (342.4 ypc), 26th in scoring defense (22.0 ppg), 13th in pass efficiency defense (108.17) and 28th in pass defense (201.1 ypg). The Buckeyes also ranked fourth nationally with 24 interceptions, fifth in turnovers gained (33), 16th in third-down defense (34.4%), 13th in sacks (3.00 pg) and 14th in tackles for loss (7.3 pg) en route to a Big Ten and National Championship.”

If either of them has heard of tackling, it's a major plus.

Don’t denigrate the memory of Grant. Ulysses Grant was an aggressive general who actually fought battles instead of retreating. I wish Grantham was like Grant. Then maybe our DBs wouldn’t play 10-15 yards off the ball.

As a defensive coach... Chris ash is very very well thought of. I am not sure on his recruiting. On the other hand.. McGridd is a recruiter. He knows who to know. He has had his hands in several cookie jars. He is a decent coach... but a back room brawler in recruiting. im far more excited over Chris Ash... fir many reasons but chief among them is the idea of CO DC.. smooth transition after next year. Lower or no buyout for TG... players know Ash and Ash knows players... just dreaming here...

It’s between Ash and strong at this point. Sounds like T-Rob is headed to the U to coach there secondary in it’s entirety.

This would be very ideal. I hope we land Ash. He’s a good one to have on board. I wish Mattison wasn’t in his golden years. I’d help pay his salary if we could get him back.

McGriff is a good coach who produced some very solid NFL DBs.

But if Grantham is still the DC, we have a very clear ceiling of 10-2 IMO.

It obviously does or else they wouldn’t do it. Ask Dan to send you a copy of his org chart when he’s done. I know in the corporate world an assistant director pulls rank on the manager of defense any day

So in response I guess if Ash is the Asst. HC he could not be made the DC after next year... because that was my whole point. Yes, there is clearly a difference between Asst. HC and CO DC... but to end of Ash being in line to be a DC after Grantham... it doesn’t change much.

I’d fire grantham so fast it would make his head spin for Chris Ash.

Why couldn't he be DC/asst HC after next year if that is Dan's plan

He could be? So what? I was wrong in his title. Big deal. I even said I was dreaming that Ash could would move into to the DC position. I’m not sure what bug crawled up your butt about it but pick it out. Dan can do whatever he wants. He can Call him the Supreme Commander of Defense and Asst to the Asst HC for all I care.
