I would imagine they might do this....Probably will hold a fan day with pick your seat day - open up the stadium on that day...probably during fall ball and a home football weekend next year...

Question I looked at the webcam and saw something gray getting installed between the stadium and the field. It looks like form boards were used. Their are piles of gray in the middle of the field. I can't believe its concrete so might it be crushed granite or maybe a fabric screen to later hold the top sports clay? I imagine the form boards are for holding the clay. This seems very early to me to be installing the clay. I'm new at this baseball stadium construction stuff so please excuse the confusion.

Somebody needs to run by the new stadium with a long stick and give the webcam a few pokes. The wind must have blown it down. Its a great view of some AC fan units.

Everyone needs to take a look at the work on the new field. Its almost like roll some grass out there and give me a lawn chair and we could be ready for baseball.
The camera is fixed and glad they did. There's quite a bit of activity to keep an eye on for those that can't wait like me. Today I see roofing material going on. A gray ground material is getting spread over the entire field of play other than pitchers mound and the areas along the wall that was previously done. It looks like some work is happening to uncovered seating area by first base (could this be prep work for seat installation later). The bullpen base material is already down. The scoreboard pillar structure looks complete (bricks and paint) other than installing the scoreboards. I have to assume after the base drainage material is laid across the field then the irritation work will get installed.

The old field you could fry an egg on the concrete or seats! This is going to bring us a long way towards being a state of the art facility.

Now I can answer my own question. Reading the twitter feed on the home page says we will have artificial turf between the dugouts all the way out to the foul lines then tapered back heading out to the outfield. That why you see the raised form boards between the crushed granite, see below. I'm not sure why here in Florida our maintenance guys need artificial turf instead of grass or if the team likes running out of the dugout on turf and moving the batting cages over it instead.

Part of the reason is that the turf will take the wear and tear a lot better. It will be less for field staff to cover and remove for practice and pregame. I am a fan of grass but it makes sense to not have to spend the time in keeping it looking pristine when turf will take the abuse with zero long term costs.

Exactly. I also wonder if the stadium positioning and the roof might limit the amount of sun that area receives and thus make it harder to keep healthy turf

But make us hungrier in the process (or poorer I suppose given we will now have to buy the cooked eggs).

The seats are in! Looks great with the Orange roof and Blue seats. Its one thing to see it in the renderings but feeling like I could go pick out me seats is much better.

Damn, working on the in-field. With good/warm weather, they could sprig the field early and be ready to host the super regionals in the new venue!

they might / outta, maybe, postpone the gator alumni baseball game until, say, July 4th weekend and play the game in the new venue!

That works for me. I'm telling you, throw down some grass and we could be ready before SEC play starts.

Hopefully it will look decent when completed. Oklahoma State has a similar set up in their new stadium, not all too crazy about how theirs turned out:

I agree. Unfortunately I think this infield is exactly the layout ours will have. Maybe a newer turf will not have this outdoor carpet look around home plate. But the seats here sure look awfully nice.
