If you believe that party line, which I don't. No way of knowing if there was a real transgression or perceived transgression, and if UF's response was appropriate, but "bad fit" ... please.

Gates joins Nebraska after brief Florida stay

    LAME!

At some point UF/Mike White will have to make a comment. "No comment" shouldn't fly with reporters. I think it will make us look bad.

Right now I think Gates looks bad, but we still need more info.

UF's response was appropriate and bad fit is a decent way to put it.

People outraged that there needs to be more info released must have forgot how a professional setting works. Employers don't detail why an employee has been terminated out of privacy issues. The employee could sue the employer for defamation.

It's not that they need to release more information. I think the issue is that it will come up and "no comment" generally doesn't sit well or look good.

"no comment" is in response to the follow-up questions. They released what they released, and that's the end of what you'll hear about it officially. We'd all love to get the 30 for 30 about it, but it's not happening.

Probably just a difference of opinion on recruiting style.

Gates was (apparently) a pretty big get for us, and moving from NW to Florida was a nice step up for him. And, not to be too arrogant, moving from UF to Nebraska is a pretty big step down.

So this doesn’t seem like the sort of move either side makes because of vague “fit” issues or mild personality clashes. There must have been something pretty serious to spark this - not that we’ll ever know for sure what that was.

I found a clip of an overly engaged UF basketball fan speaking with Scott Stricklin.

I'm certainly ready to move on from the Gates fiasco. My primary concern is that this staff has been down one coach for almost 2 months. I assume the off-season is a critical time for recruiting and the uncertainty and turmoil with the assistant's spot has got to be taking a toll. Any brief work Gates might have done (who know if he did any) on the recruiting trail is completely negated by his departure. We need a quality hire but it doesn't look like White can afford to wait very long in filling this vacancy. He's already at a disadvantage as it is recruiting against the blue-blood and/or shady programs (I'm talking to you Vandy, LSU, Bama, etc.) for elite talent.
