I didn't see a thread about this, but Gators are in last place right now. I don't watch gymnastics much. Do they have a chance to come back?

After rotation #2 we're now up to 2nd place. The top 2 teams from this competition join the top 2 from this evening's competition (Utah, Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU) for the national title. They did not get off to a good start on the uneven bars and then their 1st girl fell off the beam, but they've climbed back into it. 6 girls compete in each event, the top 5 scores count.

After the 3rd rotation the Gators are solidly in 2nd place behind Michigan. Just need to have a solid performance in the Vault to get into tomorrow's championship round.

I thought the top 3 teams form the group of 6 make it to the finals.

There are 2 groups of 4 competing today. Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Cal this afternoon - Oklahoma, Utah, LSU & Alabama tonight. Florida just finished second in the 1st session. They & Michigan advance to tomorrow's Final 4. The Top 2 from tonight advance as well.

To me the scoring was more accurate than during the regular season because they used 6 judges for each event. The high score and low score was dropped and the other 4 were averaged. During the regular season for dual meets, there are only 2 judges for each event and their scores are averaged. For the SEC tournament and NCAA Regionals, they use 4 judges per event, with high and low scores dropped and the remaining 2 averaged. Today, Michigan's final total score was 197.8625, Florida had 197.4375, Cal had 197.3625 and Minnesota had 197.1875. I think it may take a 198 to win the national title.

They changed the format this past year moving to 2 x four team semis and a Final 4. Presumably this was to done with covid in mind by having 2 less teams on the floor competing at any one time. I never quite understood the old Super 6 format and I am sure the ABC & ESPN networks appreciate the more rapid pace of the meet now that each session does not drag out with 6 teams taking turns waiting on getting through the 4 events.

the 2- four team semifinal and four team final, makes for a fairer and more streamlined product, as all four teams are performing at the same time on different apparatus. The byes that teams had was always awkward to me.

This is actually the second year for it, in 2019 they had it too.
It was done for tv - the six team format with some teams not on the floor, scores not lining up after rotations because some teams had completed one rotation, some 2 etc was deemed “not tv friendly”, so they revamped it.

Alabama and LSU got edged out by Utah for the second evening final spot. Oklahoma dominated the competition and will be tough to beat tomorrow.

Are the scores from the first day counted along with the second day or do they start clean tomorrow?

Judges scores are always suspect, they seemed to love everything Michigan did today, that will carry over.

Having watched several regular season matches, in particular, the one where Trinity was out along with a couple others, I believe the Gators have what it takes to win today.

We have scored 198, I believe, more than once. If the girls had unis on with no identifying colors or symbols, I would have thought Michigan was us.

I also find it strange that we are the only SEC school left in the tournament. I don’t believe that we will have major errors in every rotation like yesterday.

I always kind of felt mistakes are inevitable over the course of the season, and you have to hope they dont derail you at the wrong time. So far uf has been fortunate in that regard, unless you consider the SEC tourney crucial.
Kind of feels like they are due today. Oklahoma is the best team imo, but we can hang if we hit
