SEC teams Auburn (#2 Seed) & Tennessee (#4 Seed) are in the Top 16.
Remember last year, I believe that Florida was ranked in the early Top 16.

Florida's low rpi (47) has the Gators projected as a 10-11 seed for now.

Can someone help me out with Florida's poor RPI? Maybe I'm a homer but I'm not seeing what's in the metric that is hurting them worse than a Missouri or Arkansas.

Interestingly enough, if you compare Florida's resume; specifically, how the team does against the rpi top 50, Florida compares similarly to the top 4 seeds and slightly better than many other top opponents (i.e, Auburn, Tennessee, Duke, Cincinnati, Clemson and Kentucky):

----------- vs rpi top 1-50 ----vs rpi top 50-100
    ==========================================
    Florida (?10)--- (6-4) ------------- (5-3)

    Virginia (1) ----(8-1) --------------( 4-1)
    Villanova (1) ---(8-1) -------------- (5-1)
    Xavier (1) -------(6-3) -------------(8-0)
    Purdue (1) ------ (5-3) -------------(5-1)

    Auburn (2) ----- (4-3) -----------(6-0)
    Duke (2) -------- (5-2) ---------- (2-3)
    Cincinnati (2) -- (4-2) -----------(7-0)

    Clemson (3) ---- (5-3) ---------- (5-1)
    Tennessee (4) ---(4-6) ----------(4-0)

    Kentucky (?5) ----(4-6) ---------(5-2)

Florida has three 'bad' losses to Ole Miss (103 rpi), Georgia (83), and South Carolina (78). I believe that it is these so called bad losses that is really penalizing Florida's terrible rpi (47) despite having a good SOS (30) and a number of good wins against the rpi top 50/top 100.

However, the Gators still have opportunities to pick up high quality wins over Tennessee (13), Auburn (8), Kentucky (20) and Alabama (33).

in my opinion, the kenpom poll is a much better indicator of who the best teams are compared to this rpi poll. It has Florida ranked #26 right now. https://kenpom.com/

That's the best thing we had going last season, 0 bad losses will get you a very high seed.

CBS actually has us lower than just about everyone else. I like to look at

    http://www.bracketmatrix.com/

Shows all the bracket predictions Andy then averages them. Right now they have us as a 7.

I have a problem with Kansas, Duke, UNC, Zona, and OU.

KU, Duke, and UNC are all 3-3 in their last 6.
Zona is 1-2 with losses to Washington and UCLA in their last 3.
OU is 2-6 in their last 8.

    Where is Gonzaga?

Just a guess on the UF RPI ? 4 home losses maybe.. I heard them say more emphasis on road wins. I assume the adverse of that as well?..

The end of the season will have a massive impact on this, as will the Conference Tournament, as they always do. Counting unhatched chicks is a fools errand, and the Gators have games left against all of the Top SEC teams, as always.

Isn't Jerry Palm the CBS bracket guy? Isn't he that guy that has a financial stake in the RPI? So why is anybody surprised that CBS has us as a 10 seed?

    THANK YOU

wait, wait, wait!!! You mentioned three bad losses… I mentioned that 7-10 days ago when we started accumulating bad losses to South Carolina, Georgia, and had already been beat by ole Miss. many of the resident experts on this board told me I was off-base and there's no such thing as a bad loss…. Well, hate to say it but with regards to the replies I have to say it and now we know why even after winning a few we are still in a tough spot. Win the next two and back to a 6-7. Lose to Georgia again and we are in big trouble and that would be a fourth bad loss in three weeks

3 of our losses are to teams currently projected to be in the tournament (Florida State, Loyola-Chicago, and Alabama)

The committee usually doesn't punish you too much if you drop a bad game on the road(Georgia and Ole Miss). Just look at Duke and Villanova who may have the worst loss in the top 25 (St.Johns). As long as we beat Georgia and avoid the trap game shenanigans in Nashville, we'll be fine. The South Carolina home loss can easily be canceled out by winning on the road at Alabama or Tennessee.

The tourney will be wide open this year. Don’t go chalk in your brackets this year.

    Some very good posts.....

I will add......don't forget there's a LOT of basketball left to play and with that - I predict there will be a fair number of upsets which we can benefit from.

That said - I do agree we need to keep winning.....

Thankfully the Gators will not be seeded solely based upon rpi
