    Hey all, we are simulating our favorite annual sporting event with a bracket challenge. I brought up the idea in this thread. Here's how it works:
    • I have created a field of 68. The bracket is released down thread.
    • Three judges (oklahoma, efawcett, & tampajack) will pick the scores for the games. Their scores will be averaged to determine the winner of each game.
    • Anyone who wishes to participate may submit a bracket.
    • Scoring will be as follows: Round 1: 1 point, Round 2: 3 points, Sweet 16: 6 points, Regional final: 9 points, National semi: 12 points, Champ: 15 points
    • Bonus points will be awarded for the FF: 5pts per team.
    You can use the site below to create your bracket, but note that you will have to build it from the "ground up" based upon the given bracket.
    2020 March Madness Bracket (Excel and Google Sheets Template)

    Please note that my bracket may not be entirely accurate, esp. wrt the play-in seeds. It seems that the template did not align with this year's setup. Remember, though, that this is all hypothetical and just for fun. Feel free to critique the bracket and seedings - that's part of the fun. I explained my method for seeding in the thread linked above.

    Here are your play-in games, scheduled for Tues/Wed, March 17-18. I will ask that the judges provide scores (more on that later) on or before Wednesday, March 18 at 5pm EDT. *** Note that with this, all brackets will be due at that time. So y'all got four days to complete brackets. The play-ins:

    11 Seed East Region: Winthrop vs. Southern Cal (USC)
    16 Seed Midwest Region: Northern Kentucky vs. Prairieview A&M

    11 Seed South Region: Western Kentucky vs. Belmont
    16 Seed West Region: North Carolina Central vs. Robert Morris

    Need submitted brackets in by noon, Thursday? That’s always the traditional cut off point? Or when?

    A couple of items to be wary of:
    Any team who’s name sounds like a butler. Got a couple in the field + butler, too!
    Any hyphenated directional school = trouble! Especially if Pearl is coaching!

    Solid bracket. The only noticeable departure from what the committee typically does on first glance - with play in games they typically group power 5 together. So Winthrop wouldn’t play USC, imo. Perhaps Winthrop gets “in” the round of 64, and miss state moves to the play-in game. Or providence?

    I previously mentioned Wednesday, but Thurs at noon would be fine.
    Asking the judges @tampajack1 and @Efawcett7 to send in play-in scores via PM by Wednesday, 5pm EDT. @OklahomaGator has already submitted scores for play-ins and round 1. Once we have at least ten brackets in, I'll begin releasing the judges' scores. Brackets can be sent in here on this thread. Attach a file, if you would, please. So far, the list of contestants is:
    @33hoop
    @number1
    @gatorbogey
    @akaGatorhoops
    @channingcrowderhungry
    @jeffphillips21
    @ApexNC
    @HallGator

    Hope to get a few more brackets.

    Thanks bogey. This is some of the dialogue I was hoping to generate at the start. I've never fielded a bracket and admittedly, shot from the hip. My analysis was limited by time, but it was fun!

    I'm surprised NC State got in as a 9 seed. Was expecting them in a play in game at best

    Yeah, that's a good call. I was thinking that often P5 at larges in the "last in" category are nine seeds. Lunardi has NC St as an 11seed play-in.

    Yeah, I think your approach is closer to reality with respect to strength of team...but they have to force some P5's down to the 11 line for the first round
