You may be new here, but you skillfully ran this thread off its rails. Way to go!

    Good for pelosi

this is a failure of leadership. I don’t know why trump followers blindly follow him. Is it ignorance?

“medical professionals on the front lines of the nationwide crisis say they are being forced to reuse or go without personal protective equipment like surgical masks and face shields to account for a shortage. Some states also are scrambling to find ventilators to prepare for a crush of patients expected to need them.”

    Clever.

Thankfully I am not a Too Hot mod. It's a job more difficult than most of you can imagine. A lot of charges are tossed at the mods, but they are baseless and without merit. The Too Hot crew ALL of them, strive to be as impartial as humanly possible. Posts from people representing both sides of the political spectrum are equally edited or deleted. Like Hall posted earlier, people making these charges of favoritism would quickly be disabused of the notion if they could see the reports and read the discussions on the Mod threads.

If you want to post something about a person or a group of people there are probably subtle ways of doing it without raising a flag of 'obvious insult.' duchen has a clever idea with his word placement within a sentence, (though I think it might be more effective if he removed the comma between respectfully and I). Be creative. We may suffer penalties for what we say out loud or right, but our freedom to think our own thoughts is one that can never be taken from us.

This is not about that. The House thinks they have more power than the Constitution allows for them to have. Pelosi thinks she's the one elected to run the country... always trying to control the actions of the president. This is just another 'avenue'... another attempt at a government/Dems' coup.

You really seem to misunderstand how the House of Representatives was modeled after the British House of Commons and seem to misapprehend Article I of the Constitution. If anything, the House has been less aggressive in the power it wields since FDR was President than it should be. But I find your belief convenient in light of your preference for the occupant of the White House. Sort of interesting that you don’t seem to like republican government when you like the present chief executive. So, if you want a Trump coronation, just say so. The honesty would be refreshing.

Said it before, when the subject of a discussion is the Electoral College, conservative posters on this board frequently resort to the mantra "we are a republic not a democracy". Maybe it's time to remind them that in a republic, the legislature is preeminent branch of government. There is a reason why the First Article of Constitution concerns Congress rather than the President. Yes, this country is a republic, not an autocracy. And it's Trump rather than Pelosi who thinks that he has more power than the Constitution provides.

They are not elected to harass the president at every turn. That is exactly what Pelosi is doing.

Actually, the branches are supposed to struggle over power. That’s the design of the republican system of government. That’s what checks and balances are. The Framers didn’t really anticipate party loyalty but did expect branches to jealously guard their own authority.

You seem to want a total monarchy or an authoritarian regime, as long as you like who is in charge.

Their won’t be five minutes of this “committee” talking about oversight of the money. It’ll be another witch hunt of trump at taxpayers expense. This ain’t about the money. Just watch.

Maybe if Trump followed the norms of most of his predecessors regardless of party he wouldn't have to worry about "them" coming after him.
Every time Trump or one his followers screams "witch hunt" this comes to mind.

Exactly. And you might want to remind some other posters here who keep crying dictatorship and authoritarianism.

Do you believe for a second Pelosi would be calling for this if Obama or Biden we’re prez? I believe the republicans would do the same. So I’m not so naive to think this is in the “interest of the country”. It’s ALL political.

Ps. Define what “norms” would you be referring to in these unprecedented times. ?

    .
Pelosi's proposal for the select committee was patterned on a similar committee that provided oversight during World War II, another "100 year event".
