Thirty someodd years ago I used to make regular trips to the Sarasota-Bradenton Kennel Club, not to play the dogs but because they had the best damn smoked sausages in the universe. When I moved away for the next few years I really missed those sausages. Then I discovered that the Hot Dog man that set his cart in front of Homedepot had the same delicious sausages. A few years back he moved on and the replacement guy carried the same crappy sausages everybody else has.

So I've been trying different smoked sausage brands to try to find something close. The sausages I am looking for have a similar taste to 7-11s Bahama Mama's but a tad bit spicier. Now don't get me wrong those 7-11 sausages are garbage compared to the old Dog Track sausages. The difference is in the texture and juices. Those Dog Track & Homedepot sausages had a thick skin on them and when you bit through that skin the grease and juices ran down the corners of your mouth.

Anybody have a clue what brand name or style of sausage that would be?

I love the dog track in Sarasota. Friday matinees .50 cent beer and .50 hotdogs. Just super sad they voted to stop the dog races.

You would have loved Casselberry in the 80s then. I moved from Bradenton to Casselberry and found within a 5 mile radius of my house there were 2 Dog Tracks, 4 Titty Bars and a Jai alai fronton. I used to say it was my kind of town where the main industries were Titty bars and Dog Tracks.

Wasn’t the rabbit at the dog track called Swifty?

Been to that jai alai fronton multiple times in the 70s. Besides Jai Alai I also saw Seals and Croft’s there.

There were actually 2 dog tracks. If you turned right on the corner of 17-92 & Seminola Blvd about a mile down the road was Seminole Greyhound Park. If you turned left at the same intersection about 1/2 mile down the road was Sanford/Orlando Kennel Club. At the time dog tracks were only allowed to stay open for 6 months out of the year so with 2 tracks they could stay open all year.

Just kidding with you @gatorbill-I turned 70 in May and you are in better shape then me. I've got 6 bypasses, a stint, type 2 diabetes and a blocked left carotid artery. I'm 6'1'' and weigh 170, never smoked and don't drink. I think a lot of our health conditions are hereditary.

I am not a physician but I think cholesterol has a greater hereditary component than diet component. My father ate no veggies loved bratwurst and ice cream and had a cholesterol level similar to yours. He died two years ago within a week of his 80th birthday.
