IMO, they did what their coach coached them to do. My take is simply that they expected to be tougher than us and when they weren't, they didn't have another plan. In that light, I thought Pearl's plan for his team was fundamentally flawed in that he decided that Broome was an incarnation of Danny Manning and all he needed to do was to give him some supporting pieces and he would win the NC all by himself. BIG mistake. Houston did not have a tough and savvy player like we had in spades - Clayton in particular - but relied on the entirety. It blew up in their face at the most inopportune time. You could say the exact same thing about Duke, their regular season did not have enough land mines to blow up to get them prepared for the tourney. We did. Well, that and we had The Toddfather!
I went back and watched that. Aberdeen was guarding the ball on the sideline close to the Gators bench and Todd was giving instructions. It looks like Aberdeen misunderstood and committed the foul. The look on CTG's face said, "The hell was that?"
Iconic. Historic really. I hope it is immortalized somewhere in the facility. Stuff of legends. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
