Now he needs to make it happen...
It's at least an acknowledgement. First step is admitting you have a problem.
Much better than the "millions of dollars" that we have been hearing in the past.
Translation - one night of concession sales. No excuses now.
Also, the fact that they only have a "guesstimate" suggests that it was never even quoted out as an option for the Exactech renovation.
Why cables? I can stream 4K UHD in my house with relatively cheap equipment.
Got to run power at a minimum. Then the main camera is probably run to a truck or control room.
If everyone who ever mentioned this (here), kicked in $5 for each mention, we’d have the costs covered!
And then some
You hard line arenas to guarantee no drops. Anything wireless will go down too often.
Completely baffled as to how this was never even considered during the renovation.
I spoke with mike Hill about this before, During and after the renovation.
It went from “being considered” to “too expensive”.
Someone please tweet Scott and ask...”what is the cost of NOT making the switch?”.
A good director will just switch.
I can go to Home Depot and get a few extension cords and some coax for this. And my brother has an old Ford pick up bed we can use as a platform.
I'm gonna email Mr Stricklines to see if he needs our help.
The history of electronic communications back to the 1800s is the varying strengths and weaknesses of wired and wireless. In this case at this time, wired is far more reliable, has less interference and less latency (time lag). In the case of tv cameras you have at least three necessary links—video to the truck, power to the cameras (battery is fine, but less reliable), and an audio communication line between production truck and camera operator and truck and announcers
That sounded like total nonsense to me. They were gut renovating the arena. When starting essentially from zero on the inside, what the hell differences does it make which side the students were on? 75 feet of additional hard-line costs "millions of dollars"??? I don't think so.
I get it costs money after the fact, but that excuse made absolutely zero sense when they had that opportunity during the reconstruction/renovation. I don't even believe it would cost $1 extra in the design phase, let alone "millions of dollars", even acknowledging the fact that there was a shell that the "new" arena had to fit within - the side the students sit on seems like a totally arbitrary thing.
Foley really dropped the ball big time in his later years IMO. Both in football and basketball. Basketball was just on cruise control because of Donovan, obviously we see the disaster that football was. The only big decision Foley had was the O'Dome, and IMO the arena project ended up unimpressive in multiple ways.
So much for that satellite uplink.
That’s just backhaul. Satellite is cheaper and easier to arrange than landline on many dimensions, but it’s not necessarily more reliable or better quality.
Themistocles, is that you?
Mr. Stricklin... please get it done! It will be a huge net gain.
