While the 75-49 result over Tennessee has been impressive, that win has to be put in proper perspective as it's only one regular season game of many. To me, a significant program win would be a win in the SEC Tourney final, a win in the Elite8 to go to a Final Four, etc. Not just a win over a basketball rival. The Tennessee win is a step in the right direction. Florida (7-4, 4-3) is currently in 7th place in the SEC and three games out from first place. The SEC leader, Alabama, is currently spanking 2nd place LSU by more than 20+ points. This Florida win over Tennessee would be somewhat meaningless if the Gators cannot build upon it. For instance, Florida going on a mini-SEC winning streak to go up in the SEC standings. 2020-21 SEC Basketball Standings | ESPN
OK? None of that speaks to the question. Has Mike had a more impressive win to date? Tomorrow is not part of the question.
You might want to take a look down. That stuff under your feet is very thin ice. You have not been around long enough to even establish you're a Gator fan.
I hope he keeps rotating the bigs in there to give us a fighting chance against physical teams. It was good to see Payne and Jibotah get good minutes tonight.
It would be fun to see CC and Payne in together for a bit. Maybe in the second half if fouls aren’t a concern.
Damn near if not the best. To think we had 22 fouls to their 14 (+6) and 11 FT attempts to their 25 (+14), and we beat them by 26! They had a horrible shooting night, but we had a lot to do with that too. They were rattled! We were up on them from the first made basket of the game and brought it to them. The guys - down 3 of our 4 best players - were unbelievable tonight. I loves me some Appleby. There has to be a happy hour joke in there somewhere.
Some of Florida's best wins under Mike White: 2020-21: 75-49 over #6 Tennessee 2019-20: 70-65 over #18 Xavier to win the Charleston Classic 69-47 over #4 Auburn (NCAA Tourney Canceled!) 2018-19: 82-77 at #13 LSU 76-73 #9 LSU (in SEC Tourney) UF lost in RD32 (to Michigan) 2017-18: 111-105 2OT over #17 Gonzaga (Nike Tourney) 66-60 over #17 Cincinnati 83-66 at #11 Texas A&M 66-64 at #18 Kentucky 72-66 #12 Auburn 80-67 23 Kentucky UF lost in RD32 (to Texas Tech) 2016-2017: 88-66 over #8 Kentucky E8 Tourney Run: 65-39 over 5 Virginia 84-83 OT over #8 Wisconsin UF lost to #7 South Carolina (70-77) in E8. 2015-2016: 88-71 over #9 West Virginia ======================================================= So, as you can see from the above results, Florida has managed to defeat at least one top 10 team per season. Keep in mind, I haven't mentioned the many other top 25 team losses. Notably the following losses: 2015-16: #1 Michigan St (52-58) 2016-17: #5 Duke(74-84), #11 Gonzaga (72-77), at #11 Kentucky(66-76) 2017-18: #1 Duke (84-87) 2018-19: #10 Michigan St (59-63), #3 Tennessee (67-78), #7 Kentucky (54-65), at #6 UK (57-66); NCAA (2 Michigan: 49-64) 2019-20: #1 Baylor (61-72), #6 UK (70-71), at #10 UK (59-65) 2020-21: at #20 Florida State (71-83) ========================================================
See my other post above. Over the past few seasons, Florida had both impressive wins and losses. The final record of a team will ultimately determine a significance of any win. But, let all of us Gator fans enjoy this win, Tilly!
I remember some of the best of Billy’s teams losing to UT (damn Bruce Pearl). With that in mind, this truly is sweet!
Looking at that list from @RD_gator , Mike White is 6-8 at UF against top 10 teams. Pretty good record
Tilly is not talking about significance, but the fact that we did not have 3 of our best players, we were coming off a disappointing loss and playing the #6 team in the country and beat their butts by 26 points. Now that's impressive!
It may not have been the most SIGNIFICANT win, time will tell, but I think it was the most IMPRESSIVE. Especially down three starters.
He was forced to go with a lineup that worked perfectly against this Vols team tonight. Would we have fared the same with KJ, Lewis and CC playing? I'm guessing yes, but maybe he needs to think about using different lineups against different teams based on matchups instead of just having a starting 5 that he goes with every game.
Auburn last year was pretty good, but this will prove to be better. Could have been much worse. I think we missed 10-12 shots within 5 feet.
