Rays to explore splitting games with Montreal

What better way to make the Rays more attractive than to only have them play games in Tampa for the first couple months of the year? LOL.

“Under the unusual (stupid) plan, the Rays would play their early-season games in St. Petersburg and then relocate to Montreal for the latter portion of the baseball calendar. Beyond that, the specifics aren't known.”

It goes without saying that players aren't going to be fond of playing home games in two cities. This sums it up nicely:
“Splitting time between the 2 cities would be an absolute nightmare as a player… Potentially moving your family/pets back-and-forth, finding pediatricians, doctors, vets, paying rent on multiple houses, even when you’re not there. No thanks.”
    Brad Ziegler.

“One is tempted to make the point that having two homes would hurt the Rays when it comes to luring top free agents, but such a concern assumes the Rays have interest in luring top free agents.”

The Tampa Bay Rays are #29 in attendance. Guess who is #30 and last....good ole Miami at only 9,378 per game. Baseball in F-L-A is thriving.

No chance this ever happens, this is the Rays telling two cities 'whomever builds a stadium first gets the team'

Be funny if both say "nah" and they end up in Portland :D

    62—

Spot on, without even mentioning that the players have to pay taxes in every city, state, and country in which they earn their money—the income tax brackets are unbelievable (I’m talking about outside of whatever their paycheck is)—

Spring in Florida, summer and early autumn in Canada, late fall (if you get there) back in Florida?

That doesn't sound bad to me.

Not that it would have changed too much, but the Marlins had the best OF in baseball, a fantastic catcher, and a Swiss Army knife (Dietrich) on their roster and Jeter blew the whole thing up.

They aren’t even trying to win. They market themselves as the new age Astros but that team is in Atlanta.

Feel bad for the few thousand Rays fans that actually attend games.

This is a hail mary that won't work, will just speed up the Rays exit. So far, it's gotten a thumbs down from local politicos. Too bad the major players can't come with a workable stadium plan in Tampa, which is the Rays only l-t hope. Unlike the Marlins the Rays actually have a competitive team.

This is wrong on SOOOOO many levels. The only baseball that will remain in the Bay area will be spring training.

The Mayor of St.Pete predictably shot this down.

Sounds like a bunch of lawyers are about to make some money.

Why hasn’t the Rays moved their stadium out of St Pete?

Do not believe the MLB baseball union would allow. No State income tax for players in FL and substantial tax in Canada. Cost of living different and would have to maintain two residences for home games. Could see a series in Montreal, but not a half season of home games. Do they think season ticket holders in Tampa would desire to miss a pennant race at the end of the season? Why buy season tickets? The shame is Montreal was a great baseball town until ruined by ownership and Jeffrey Loria. Jeffrey Loria has the distinction of ruining baseball in both Montreal and Miami

Olympic Stadium was a travesty to baseball.

Worst baseball setting in the mlb.

As for Loria, his reward for being a terrible owner was millions of $$. Thank you MLB.

Tampa investors and Rays owners need to put their egos aside, sack up and get a deal done now. Build it close to I4 and I75 or out by Raymond James. The baseball part of the operation is ready to compete. Get your stuff together and make
    It happen!

Had 2 years to make it happen and couldn’t even reach a preliminary agreement. Deadline expired NYE 18. Now the Rays cannot look outside Pinnellas.

St Pete politicians will obligate the Rays to serve the 30 years at the Trop. They they will leave for good.
