Wisconsin school district bans Miley Cyrus-Dolly Parton duet with 'rainbow' in title | CNN “My students loved it immediately,” Tempel told CNN of her classroom’s reaction to “Rainbowland.” But within one day of students learning the song, Tempel said that school administration asked her to remove “Rainbowland” from the concert. In a statement, the district said it called for the song to be removed because its lyrics “could be deemed controversial” according to a school board policy on controversial issues in the classroom. “Wouldn’t it be nice to live in paradise, where we’re free to be exactly who we are,” Cyrus and Parton sing. “Living in a Rainbowland, where you and I go hand in hand. Oh, I’d be lying if I said this was fine, all the hurt and the hate going on here.” Fun fact. for the Clash's first tour of the states they used Dolly's bus. Cops pulled them over & were gonna search. They told 'em that Dolly was asleep in the back & they didn't. Of course there were drugs. Notwithstanding Topper's bad habits they were a GREAT band of massive stoners.
been through the very little town of South Fork Colorado (POP less than 500) 6 times in the last few weeks. it has a real rainbow thingy.
That's the second fun story I've heard about Dolly being asleep. She and Merle Haggard once had an affair. As Haggard told it (I forget in which medium), he went to see her one day and her maid told him that she was asleep. She said, "She's way down under the covers." Haggard told the maid, "You go way down under the covers and tell her I'm here."
perhaps we are in the lattice of coincidence. literally hours ago, I was turned on to a Merle Haggard song I did not know....an old friend sent a vid of him & his wife covering it.
I don’t know about anyone else but I am completely sick and tired of extremists on both sides using the “could be deemed” controversial or offensive. Why can’t we deal in what is, instead of what could could be?
They also wanted to ditch Rainbow Connection (from the Muppet Movie) but decided it could stay after the music teacher asked them to reconsider.
True story: When I taught elementary music, I dressed up like a pimp for the end-of-year talent show and disco danced while one of our staff members sang "I will survive." She was a legit singer and crushed. Probably helped prevent me from getting fired. True story #2: In another year's talent show one of the kids squeezed into the show cause his mom was a custodian (long story). Anyway, I didn't totally vet the song he was dancing to and it had lyrics about "girl I'm gonna make you wet" and so-on. Not sure why I didn't get fired for that one. Guess if big gov DeSantass was around back then, I would have.
I believe she was an average-size lady when she started out on Porter Waggoner's TV show. But then she went on to bigger and better things.
many years ago, we had a work picnic & there was a karaoke machine. the dean of the college & his son sang Money for Nothing together. Pretty sure they'd never heard the song. They "sang" it F-word & all.
Saw this on CNN's site earlier. Thought, can't believe there isnt a thread about this. Checked back a bit later...not disappointed.
