Okay, that makes me even madder. You have a terrible defensive team on the ropes and you stop attacking and play stall ball? That makes Whites decision even worse.

Exactly, we were shooting 60% from the field running our normal offense. Then he decides to make a change. One of the biggest coaching blunders I can recall in a long time at UF.

However, that really doesn't take away from what they accomplished so far. We don't determine winners and losers based on stats but rather the final score and that's where they did very well against two higher seeded teams.

Pretty sure Arky only beat them by 10 or so at Arky this year.

Or those two teams did very poorly against them. The stats are useful in separating those two causal explanations.

Good points but stats are still not the deciding factor. They may have done poorly or they may not have. Bottom line is they lost.

Just about everyone in the tourney does something well. Even a conference champ from a 1-bid conference.
But winning is about learning matchups and exploiting where the opponent is weak.

ORU's weakness was in their natural athletic ability- look how many blow-bys we had until the last 10 minutes.
That's why we shot so well.

I've defended CMW but it's like he forgot this basic principle once we got up 11.
It was like he felt that our lead was due to a fluke, so we needed to "shorten the game" since we couldn't win in a straight-up matchup.
Almost like we were the underdog and had the worse athletes...

Just smh. This was a program killer.
To look on the bright side- maybe CMW will start coaching like there's no tomorrow, like a cornered cat.

I think Arkansas is playing better now and it won’t be that competitive this time. The clock is ready to strike midnight on Cinderella.

I detest coaches that try to "shorten the game" with a lead. It might work most times, because teams that build a lead are often the better team, but shortening the game too often allows the other team a chance to get back into the game. I'm more of a proponent of play the way that created the lead up until the point where a comeback is impossible. For basketball, that's about 10 points a minute. Up 10 with under a minute, you can relax. Up 20 with under 2 minutes, put in the scrubs. Up 30 with 3 minutes or less, game over....

Shortening the game is the basketball equivalent of prevent defense.

Reason #43 why White should have never slowed the game down intentionally. After a week of thinking about it, reading this board seeing everyone’s opinion, my conclusion is that it’s in his DNA to coach scared. He truly believes milking clock and holding on is the way to win basketball games down the stretch. He’s shown it so many times the last 6 years. It’s his philosophy, whether it’s consciously done or subconsciously done, it’s what he does. It’s probably the same reason so many players seem to lose confidence under him. He doesn’t exude confidence in the way he coaches and maybe in the way he manages/communicates with players.

Muschump part 2. Play not to lose ( then lose). He could be an excellent head coach if he played aggressively to win, however although seemingly a simple adjustment, these coaches time and time again can't seem to avoid reverting back to their `not to lose` mind set.

Never understood why White only went with 8 guys against ORU. He has had some success playing 10-11 guys in the first half including Jitoboh, and with just two days off, playing a team that only uses 7 guys, it made sense to use his bench liberally at least in the first half.

There should have been no excuse for our guys to be tired midway through the second half with a 10 point lead.

If his stated logic was out guys were tired, it stands to reason we were also tiring out ORU as well. We gave them a chance to rest and regroup by slowing things down. If ORU was not tired, then Coach White has to look at our conditioning program. Why do guys like Stokes and Jitobah stay heavy while at UF?

Their MW will want a more teacher-friendly schedule.
