Colin Castleton enters transfer portal
There's a highlight video in the comments section. He definitely shows some skills. Several nice blocks, one very nice shot fake, a couple of nice step-through moves, and one VERY SWEET bounce pass in traffic for an assist (and I soooooo love good passing ).
Sure, it's a highlight video, but I like what I see!
He looks promising. You can’t teach, 6’11” and mobile. Needs a little more muscle and weight to be assertive, but through the video provided, he has pretty darn good skills. Get him to Gainesville and get him working out and eating to gain a few and working on the Gators offense and defensive schemes. Good transfer/player, a Floridian that has come home. Three centers that have different strengths, maybe play Colin at PF some. I was going to get up this morning to look at the Michigan sites for comments, you saved me the time, thanks. I think the Gators have found someone that is very close to becoming a good player with a high upside. The longer he works hard at UF improving his game, the more money he is going to make when he turns pro. Whether that is in the NBA or overseas. Hopefully we get two seasons with him. I feel one to get adjusted to SEC physical play, and one to shine to get where he wants to go. Thanks to Colin for coming to Florida to be a Gator!
I wonder if White wants him as a stretch 4, like it seemed he would be out of HS
According to Michigan's roster, he's added 20 lbs. since HS and is up to 235. He probably needs to add at least 10 more, ideally.
I am too lazy to investigate. Need help. He is from Daytona. Why the love for UF now, when he signed in I believe Year 3 of Mike's time? Still in the "show me" stage or his game got more "Mike-like"?
he was big into Florida out of hs, but iirc, we backed off .... thinking he wasn’t physically ready. We were right.
We took keyontae Johnson instead... a move that was critiqued by a couple not-to-be named posters here.
I thought that it was Khavon Moore that we were going after when we took KJ instead.
Since we're playing gotcha games. Your words on Castleton a few weeks ago. Sorry, I couldn't resist.
I predicted “I’d be surprised”. I am. My statement proved 100% accurate..
we were in on Moore, but he opted for TT.
there was a sentiment among some with KJ that we didn’t need another 6’5, undersized front court player.
Because I was adamantly pushing for KJ, I remember most posters wanting Moore. I don’t recall much, if anything, being said about Castleton back then. I must have missed it.
yeah- we were in on Colin, but I believe we suggested a year of prep school. The kid was super thin.
I think soon after we signed KJ.
I took that as your polite way of saying he wasn't good enough for UF to pursue.
Not the simple but at the time at a very high level...yes.
If I'm following your statement, I think you are referring to Castleton as a HS senior. I was just giving aka some ribbing as that was his comment 3 weeks ago when he entered the transfer portal.
No.... I didn’t think there would be mutual interest. I thought that ship sailed, and that our scholly situation at the time didn’t seem to allow room.
The kid obviously has height, and was always considered pretty skilled. He just was very skinny and never seemed physically strong enough.
Looks like he added some weight, and hopefully packs on some more lbs. !
Well after reading EF’s break down on this young man it looks like a great fit now. It’s clear the staff must like what he brings.
Don’t know about the thoughts of my mates on this board but if UF gets one of two back between Tre and Andrew I’m thinking we have a solid club returning
His senior year of high school he was 39 of 121 for 32% from 3 point land. 196 of 265 for 75% from the free throw line. So I guess his 83% from the free throw line, even though its only on 29 attempts last year, is believable.
Now he has to move a few feet farther out to make his threes. That won’t be easy.
