Mueller may have a conflict — and it leads directly to a Russian oligarch

    From the article:

In 2009, when Mueller ran the FBI, the bureau asked Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska to spend millions of his own dollars funding an FBI-supervised operation to rescue a retired FBI agent, Robert Levinson, captured in Iran while working for the CIA in 2007.

Yes, that’s the same Deripaska who has surfaced in Mueller’s current investigation and who was recently sanctioned by the Trump administration.

The Levinson mission is confirmed by more than a dozen participants inside and outside the FBI, including Deripaska, his lawyer, the Levinson family and a retired agent who supervised the case. Mueller was kept apprised of the operation, officials told me.

That is an FBI operation. Not a "Mueller Connection." Working with the government does not permanently disqualify someone from scrutiny by the government. This is not a conflict for an attorney in any sense of the word because Derapaska was not Mueller's client. Nor is Derapaska Mueller's client now.

    Fake News.

Next week it'll be Mueller isn't American and we need his birth certificate.

The desperation of the GOP to end Muellers investigation is becoming palpable. What are y’all so afraid of?

If your boy Trump is clean he has nothing to worry about.

Unless you were part of Trump's Team Russia, you have no reason to be afraid. ;)

This investigation is becoming a circus sideshow as more of the illegal spying scheme is uncovered.

This whole Hillary funded witch hunt is getting old and expensive. Where is the Trump/Russian collusion?

. I have posted the information about collision many times. What is publicly known to date. I am not going to dig through the forum to find it again. Trump Tower meeting. Paul Manafort.

Trump is owned by all of us. It's pretty difficult for a newly elected president to function and hit the ground running if under an immediate special prosecutor investigation. It's in all our interest for this to end quickly, with the preferred outcome being he can continue his term. In 2020, the Democrats can put up a good candidate and defeat him at the ballot box, for those that don't like him. Nothing good will come if this investigation becomes political.

Assuming he is innocent of colluding with the Russians, I agree it is in the country's interest if this is just wrapped up quickly.

But what if he is guilty? That would mean our POTUS colluded with our number one global adversary to manipulate an election in his favor. Is that something that is in our interest to let stand?

And the problem is that we don't know for sure without a proper investigation. We do know for sure that his campaign officials were engaged in suspicious communications with Russian agents (per several foreign intelligence services) and had significant financial entanglements and business dealings with Russian oligarchs, money launderers, and former KGB agents with ties to Putin. And he himself has had a very abnormal relationship with Putin and Russia, including refusing to enforce congressionally mandated sanctions on Russia.

There may not be a verifiable "fire" behind this, but there is a lot of smoke. And it is all on him that this smoke is there. He made these choices.

The investigation is not only about Trump. It is also about the people in his campaign who may have acted in concert with Rissians for their own gain. We have a national interest in the institutions that protect the country doing their job and functioning so those in power do not abuse that power. Nevertheless, this is off topic of whether the FBIs engagement of Derapaska is a conflict of interest.
