Many people were. I don’t think people should be forced to get it, but with that said I don’t think everyone else should be forced to pay for it if you get sick. Many facets insurance is optional, it’s a risk assessment. I co-own a rental unit. We haven’t had windstorm coverage in 15 years. Only have hazard insurance. We made the calculation that if there was a storm and we suffered damage it would be mild enough that the repairs likely would be cheap enough the benefit was far less than the risk. Thus far we are way ahead. Unless the building is totally gone (very unlikely) we will be fine.
Ok so you are bagging the employees who didn’t elect to get insurance, and bagging the law that assessed a penalty against those who chose not to get insurance. So you want to have it both ways. That’s fine if one chooses not to elect to be insured as long as society doesn’t carry the burden when that works against them. In terms of medical care, you can’t refuse to treat someone, so they are gaming the system. As to your lack of wind storm insurance, that’s fine, but bottom line many others who do the same as you will be the first in line begging the government for emergency aid when the next hurricane hits.
I bag people who make dumb choices, one size doesn’t fit all. I don’t necessarily think there should be a law to dictate every facet of our lives. As far as people who don’t get proper coverage and can’t afford the consequences they shouldn’t get bailed out by the Gov. There isn’t mandatory homeowners insure or windstorm insurance. Emergency aid due to a disaster is another thing. Insurance will generally cover loss of use but you’re not getting a check anytime quick.
When people make dumb choices regarding healthcare, we all suffer. Punishing people who make poor decisions with a lack of insurance coverage hurts all of us.
ACA was their working alternative until it was implemented and called Obamacare.. Universal Healthcare as a base (with cost controls) with privatized add-ons is what is needed.
Actually that’s projection. Illegal immigration was at its lowest point under Obama, went up under Trump, and border apprehensions are up under Biden. As I’ve never directly been involved with medicaid billing I wasn’t sure but it seemed likely. Most docs don’t take it at all and the few that do only do it because they want to serve the population that is more likely to have it kids and the very poor. I know from talking to scores of patients over the years it’s can very hard to find a doc and as far as a specialist in next to impossible. Many would need to drive to Orlando or Jacksonville for one.
In some cases they do. It all depends upon the health of the group plan you’re in if you are in a group plan.
Agreed. I was making the point to Iboy though. Because in the grand scheme we don’t. And he/she wants to discuss bad decisions. The way to get me to listen on universal healthcare is when those proposing it also propose to tax those who make poor decisions more.
Sadly however many don’t feel that bad decisions are the decision makers fault any more. There is always a reason or excuse why they made the bad decision….
Not sure of the context as whoever you are responding to I have ignored (or the other way around ) but I’m not sure what it accomplishes deciding where to affix blame. People make bad decisions. There are often reasons why they make bad decisions. We can both decide that the decision maker was primarily at fault but at the same time understand people will always make bad decisions and there often other factors contributing to the bad decisions and regardless we as a society want to help/treat them.
