There are about 73 million children in the US. So that would mean more than 50% of kids are enrolled in Medicaid. I had no idea.
No, it's actually a pretty mixed bag https://www.medicaid.gov/state-over...on-enrolled-medicaid-or-chip-state/index.html
I have been saying that for years. All old people covered. All (most) poor people covered. Military covered. Veterans covered. Rich - don't need it. What is left? Just the working class maybe 30% or so.
Yes -I love the attitude!! So why don't they? There have been opportunities. Repeal and replace with what exactly?
There’s plenty of workable alternatives. There’s just no desire to implement or no desire to fight it out. Either way we’re F’d. We will end up with a shitty single payer system or a ridiculously expensive private system, which we are almost at now. Nothing the politicians have done to date have begun to address the issue of why we even have to discuss this; that is the cost of the service. Until the politicians have the balls to incentivize providers and insurers to reduce cost, that will not change. There is no will to confront the AMA, the pharma industry and the insurance PAC money.
In fairness those changes came about due to the threat of joblessness due to covid shutdowns and not wanting people to not be covered and getting covid. Since the shutdowns are long over, UE is still lower and salaries have risen, why do these people still need to be on medicaid?
Well they need to increase medicaid payments as of now most Doctors don’t take it because it pays so bad they spend almost as much trying to get paid as it pays.
Because a lot of them are probably not eligible for employer benefits and maybe not even ACA marketplace. Where you and I probably disagree is I think everybody should have medical insurance coverage they can afford. The alternatives are they either don’t get treated, or they get treated at exorbitant rates, or they get treated and don’t pay and everybody else effectively picks up the bill through ever higher rates.
I do understand that Medicaid reimbursement is not profitable and often may be a loss. I’m not familiar either way on how reliable Medicaid is as a reimburser, compared to private insurance policies which are pretty awful.
I actually agree that everyone should have medical coverage they can afford. Question is how do we do that. Since I spent 18 years in the ER I know all about the things you speak of. I also saw plenty of people who chose not to get employer sponsored health Ins because they didn’t want to spend the money(mostly the young and healthy who didn’t think they needed it).
Yet who were the ones that were outraged at the implementation of the “individual mandate” which was in fact a tax on being uninsured?
Medicaid is a hassle for doctors. That’s hurting patients. This article indicates that Medicaid is a bigger pain in the ass than Medicare and private insurance. My son just got accepted to Medicaid so I’ll probably start to get experience with it, for better or for worse.
