Mayor Lightfoot's Chicago Sees 139 Percent Increase in Murder

Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago witnessed a 139 percent increase in murder during July 2020 when compared to July 2019.

ABC7 reported there were 105 murders in July 2020, up from “the 44 reported in July 2019.”
Moreover, there were 406 “shooting incidents” in Chicago during the month of July 2020, an increase of 75 percent “from the 232 last July,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Over a longer span of time, murders were up 51 percent from January 1, 2020, through July 31, 2020, compared to murders for the same period of time in 2019, according to the Sun-Times.

She could blame the violence on guns, but she can't get away from such a sharp uptick like that under her watch. Whatever she's doing (or not doing) is failing badly. But of course, she doesn't need Trump's help. Giving ole Baghdad Bob a run for his money.

It’s Trump’s fault! Figured I’d be first in with that complaint. This is where BLM could make a difference by focusing on these inner cities where the majority of murders are black on black. That would help as well as focusing on police reform. I know people don’t like to hear that but it’s the truth.

Thanks for posting interesting information. It’s difficult to find this information like this these days. Seems like the major news services don’t think this type of information is in the public’s best interest.

    Keep up the good work.

You don't really care at all, either, otherwise you might focus your efforts on the cities that rank #1-30 on the murder rate list.

Should be a rule to comment on the thread you start. Otherwise it’s just a news feed of random information - which is all this is.

Those mayors need to create a safer environment for their constituents as well.

Lightfoot campaigned on it, but doesn’t seem to really care. Maybe that’s why it’s news.

Every mayor ever has run on the idea of making their city safer. I don't recall any mayor saying, "vote for me, I'll make the city less safe".

Chicago has 2.7 million residents, so an increase of 80 murders year over year amounts to a 0.003% increase. Plus, I'm guessing the OP contains some cherry picked numbers to find the worst ratio possible.

Which do you feel is a worse situation , 25 murders over a weekend in Chicago or 6 in East St. Louis? Since E.St. Louis has the higher murder rate. So 25 deaths vs 6. ( numbers for illustration on rate)

It's obviously relative to population. For extreme examples, think 25 murders in a town of 2.7 million or 5 murders in a town of 100? (numbers for illustration on rate)

You have to read between the lines to pick up on your less safe saying. And I guess the cherry picking comment is from experience?
