Men on the road Took an unbelievable tight doubles point, huge given their struggles of late and being shorthanded on the road Horrible start in singles....lost first set on first 5 courts and Jefferson in a tiebreak on 6 Jin up 4-1 in his 2nd set, Kim 2-2, Nate up 3-2, Nirundorn getting waxed 0-4 (can't handle playing 4 imo), Endegren up 2-1 Bunch of youngsters gonna have to win 3rd sets on the road
Women at home win a solid doubles point....they have struggled in doubles lately as well Singles all midway in first sets, Dahlstrom up a break and everyone else on serve
Women first sets all tight.....UF wins on 1, 2, 4 and 6. AU wins on 3 and 5. Men getting into trouble. Jefferson won his tiebreak for UF's first set win in singles but Nirundorn was blitzed in his match as AU ties it 1-1 Shortly after Nate blows his 2nd set lead and the match, and then Kim loses his match as well. 3-1 Auburn Jim blew a nice 2nd set lead and is at 5-5. Endegren up 4-3, Jefferson 2-2....UF has to win all 3 matches
Jin forces a third and Jefferson up at 6....looks like Edengren will be the clincher, unfortunately he has blown a nice lead in the set and is down 5-6 Women....every winner of a first set is now down in their second set. Gotta love womens tennis
Edengren loses his set, match and AU up 4-1....UF leading in the remaining 2 but it's a big SEC L for a shorthanded team that needed to steal one
Gailis at 1 and Rowinska at 6 right the ship and win their 2nd sets and matches....UF 3-0 Briggs and Lopez wins 2nd sets and on to 3rd Dudeney at 3-3 up a set Dahlstrom won first 6-2, lost 2nd 1-6, down 0-1 in 3rd
Dudeney was up 4-3 and headed to the clincher, loses 2 straight to trail 4-5 Briggs and Dahlstrom getting whipped in 3rd sets.....disappointing Lopez may save us, up 3-0 in her 3rd
Dudeney loses 3 straight and her 2nd set Briggs wins her 2nd 6-1 and then loses 5 straight to go 0-5 in third Lopez at 4-1 seems to be the match
The Women's Tennis team seems to be improving by leaps and bounds over the past month. They just won their 3rd straight top 25 match up. This match today was against Alabama, and Florida won the match 4-0. The truth is they could have won the match 7-0 if all of the games were allowed to finish. The match against UGA before our current win streak was a narrow 4-3 loss, and they are undefeated in the SEC this year. A side note: Rachel Gailis is quickly becoming one of the best players in the country. She seems underranked in my opinion. Currently she sits at #45 in the rankings. Here are Rachel Gailis' match ups against ranked players this year: September: #2 Reese Brantmeier (UNC) Loss 3-6, 6-0, 3-6 October: #98 Anastasia Lopata (UGA) Win 6-3, 6-4 #52 Emily De Oliveira (UF) Loss 3-6, 6-4, 5-7 February: #18 Julia Fleigner (Michigan) Win 6-4, 6-1 #15 Connie Ma (Stanford) Loss 3-6, 2-6 #25 Alexandra Vecic (UGA) Abandoned 7-6, 2-0 #70 Ariana Arsenault (Auburn) Abandoned 7-6, 1-1 #6 Savannah Brodus (Pepperdine) Loss 2-6, 2-6 March: #1 Mary Stoiana (Texas A&M) Loss 4-6, 4-6 #29 Dasha Vidmanova (UGA) Win 7-6, 4-6, 6-0 #27 Sofia Cabezas (Tennessee) Win 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 #14 Carolyn Ansari (Auburn) Win 6-2, 6-3 Losses: #1, #2, #6, #15, #52 Wins: #14, #18, #25, #27, #29, #98 Big picture, I think Rachel Gallis deserves quite a bump in the rankings. She probably deserves to be ranked in the top 20 IMO. She is also the only player in the country to take a set 6-0 off of Dasha Vidmanova or Reese Brantmeier this year. Dasha Vidmanova just beat the #1 player Mary Stoiana earlier this week. So, I imagine she is very underranked as well. Those are two elite players Gailis has played dominating sets against. Gailis could play a competitive match against anyone in the country right now IMO.
Gailis has absolutely turned it up.....flashed at times as a freshman but inconsistent. Seems to have found the groove. Lopez is kind of having that same type freshman season this year. Definitely playing better as a team, but doubles just has to get better for them to make any real noise, both the men and women are playing the poorest doubles I can recall in a while.
Men vs Alabama today....lost the doubles point as usual. Played well at times in singles....Jefferson, Endengren and Nirundorn all lost in 3 sets. Nate lost 2 close sets. Kim won at 2, playing well and growing up Jin headed to a 3rd set tiebreak 5-1 Bama Buckle up, super young and dealing w injuries is not a good recipe.
The coach has changed the doubles line up, and they've won the doubles point the last two games since he shook up the line up. Now that is not against the kind of competition they faced in February (Stanford, Michigan, Pepperdine), but it is ranked SEC competition.
Still scuffling in doubles imo, changing 2/3 of the way thru the season tells you it's a bit of desperation. But maybe it works....at least they got the point this weekend. #1 was going to lose vs Auburn and #3 lost vs Bama so not ready to say they have figured it out yet
Why is JanMagnus Johnson not playing for men's team; also, saw a commitment from Francesco Cordova for men - #34 recruit for 2024.
It was mentioned a while back that he is trying to get back from injury. They need him and/or Ganesan back....getting both healthy could change the dynamic a lot
