LSU reportedly considering active SEC coach to replace Paul Mainieri updated:reportedly Jay Johnson

Discussion in 'Diamond Gators' started by GatorGrowl, May 28, 2021.

  1. Counting this year Mingione's missed the NCAA tourney 3 of his 4 full years at UK, I know it's a tough job but they can certainly do better than that.

My hope is that they sign Meat for a multi-year contract.

    Not SEC, but ACC.

didnt he win 15 one of those years & not get in? I certainly dont think hes atop any list, but at a school that probably wont match offers if all the big names get raises.

Who are they truly after? The Vandy coach? Laughable. He has essentially twice the scholarships to offer and won't at LSU. Sully? He has it built in after years. Van Horn? Better open up the pocket book wide to get him.

Does Sully's kids still live in Gainesville? That would seem to be an incentive to stay.

But Sully seems to me like a dad that would tell them to tough it up.

I would be shocked if Sully left for BR. No ties of any kind. LSU has as many NCs and less NC appearances compared to UF in the last 19 years unless I am missing a season. LSU has better fan support but not a better facility and not as good recruiting and not as good of a scholarship situation. Plus how many coaches have left UF, that UF wanted, for clearly lateral moves? The list is VERY short including all sports.

Now on to the real discussion, A&M vs LSU. Who pays more??

    Candidates:
I think the coach at Texas Tech is a highly possible candidate for both. He is exceptional. I think Vitello is an option. LSU has some massive advantages over Tennessee. ECU’s coach? Coastal Carolina? DBU? There are a number of good mid major coaches out there.

"Retiring" my butt. The only consideration Mainieri got is when he was asked if he wanted it to be called a retiring or a firing. My prediction - he's getting one year's salary and then he'll take another job. At 63 he has lots of coaching years left in him. His migraines are caused by the LSU Administration.

Previously signed through 2022 during his extension in 2016, Godwin got another year tacked on and is now inked through June 30, 2023- Along with his extra year, Godwin got a nice pay bump, seeing his base salary for 2018-19 increase from $280,000 to $375,000. The salary will rise by $10K each year and the pay structure is as follows:

    2018-19: $375K

    2019-20: $385K

    2020-21: $395K

    2021-22: $405K

    2022-23: $415K
