Thanks, Navy. Yeah, the mind and memory are good still. At least I got that going' for me as the body is in deconstruction mode from a neurological disorder.

I just googled "mac's waffle shop", one of my favorite places, and found this forum. way cool. i haven't yet read all of the posts but I'll add sip n sub to the list. doubt it's mentioned yet. I worked there in the 70's. had a crush on a girl in my math class and when she told me she worked there i went and asked the owner for a job. he said ok. i then found out he was the girl's husband. que sera, sera. still got a nice gig with a free beer tap.

Saw this on the Matheson site. Is the Florida Motel on 13th gone? Gainesville Sun story from June said it could be demolished. That's where my family stayed when we went to UF games in the '60s.

Now demolished Florida Motel in Gville. "Wall to wall carpeting, Individually controlled heat & ac, Room Phones, Cable TV, Swimming Pool, lovely picnic & playgrounds, all paved drives & parking. Enjoy the cool tranquil breeze in the shade of our Magnolia trees." #TravelTuesday

Florida Motel could be demolished for Comfort Suites

Lacuna, enjoyed reading your post about Cross Creek and the Rawlings house. As a young boy I remember my grandfather telling me a story that while he was a student at the University of Florida he planted a small citrus grove for Miss Marjorie oh her property next to the house. He claims that she made mention of him in one of her books as the young man planting her citrus trees. Pretty cool! He lived on a farm and large Citrus grove growing up in Brandon Florida. Gramps, as I called him, went on to become the Chief Entomologist for the state of Florida. He had lots of interesting stories to tell about his study of insects. One of which was when he had a secret meeting with a young man who wanted to create an amusement park on Central Florida swampland. Gramps consulted with Walt Disney on how to iradicate the mosquito problem in the area. Always enjoyed hearing his stories about Florida history and UF in particular.

Happy Hour Pool Hall. Run by Shorty, USAAC Bombadier veteran. Good man who let me play many a game there, and in the shark pool in back.

Yes, the Happy Hour Pool Hall. Many thanks! It was great place to beat the afternoon summer heat with a few cold ones. I recall it being quite dark and cool inside.

Mad Monks Inn. Corner of 5th ave and 13th. Had the Friars Glut a large round sandwich for four. I played pong there the first time. The old Whataburger was across 13th and just a little south. Great food. And this is back to the 60s. The Humpty Dumpty Restaurant (where Krispy Kreme is now) My grandmother lived right behind it on 3rd place.

Cassidy’s was in the plaza next to Burrito Brothers. It had two levels. There was a yogurt place (TCBY?),
a Greek shop, I think Island Water Sports and back around ‘84 a clothing store that I believe was called Country or Southern Comforts.
