The peaty whiskies are a bit of an acquired taste, but worth it. Islay (island) whiskies are most part. I had preferred Lagavulin, but my wife discovered Laphroig Quarter Cask for me and it now leads my list.

A dead thread that needs to be revived.
One of my favorites I've tried recently is Mitcher's US-1 Straight Bourbon. Smooth, spicy, not too sweet.

Sweet! I just sent in an entry for a contest from total wine for Pappy 23 year. The drawing isn't until Feb 2020. That's a long time to wait and hope your number is called.
My new favorite is Larceny. Just discovered it six months ago and it has become my go to bourbon.

I haven't tried the bourbon, but the US-1 rye is outstanding. Have you had it?

I actually just tried this about two weeks ago. Great stuff. A couple drops of water in my glass to mellow it out.

Bulleit has and still is one of my favorites. They have several different ones but my favorite is the barrel strength (122 proof) very smooth but be careful. The whistle pig i got was $70 for the fifth, there were several others that were aged longer and were double the price.

Yes - when you do, enjoy. It's a very well-balanced rye. Nice on spice, but not overdone. Plenty of sweets and florals

Bulleit rye is very good for the $. You might be able to get a 1.75 for $45. I have an oak cask and Bulleit is my go-to to age it for a month or so, then use for Sazeracs.

Anybody have a local distillery that you enjoy? These are not nearly as common as craft breweries, but some folks are making really good whiskey out there. I'm trying Vikre's Hay and Sunshine.

I like single malts, but this is a nice blend of bourbon, rye, and scotch finished in cognac casks. Tasting notes included vanilla, butterscotch, cut grass, lemon, pineapple, and spice.

Now one of the best local whiskey's I've had was in Michigan. Any Michigan Gators should try the bourbon whiskey finished in sherry casks (or any of their whiskeys) from Ironfish Distillery. Their product is mighty fine.

Palm Ridge (Umatilla, FL) makes both a whiskey and a rye. The whiskey was a little "hot" to me but others that tried it liked just fine. The rye was a nice find for me. It was a little more fruit forward than the spice forward taste I'd expect from a rye, which made for a fun drink both neat and in a Manhattan.

St. Petersburg Distillery makes a sweet corn whiskey which tasted more candied than any whiskey or bourbon I've ever tried. Very easy to drink.

I bought a bottle of Misleton very rare to take to my brother's house for Thanksgiving. Never tried it but had another person rave about it, so....we'll see!

A bit of a hijack, but I sold the St. Pete Distillery their case erector/sealer. Tada!
