Why are humans racist to begin with?

Is it purely environmental, a thinking/belief system issue, or is there a biological aspect to it, similar to animal hierarchies, where groups try to dominate others?

It found that Americans, a melting pot, had little issue with living near people of different race.
It definitely tells a story different from your POV.

Hmm, I see two possibilities for the disconnect:

    1) You understand what I am saying, but you’re more interested in scoring political points than really bridging a gap. If so, I will gladly stop trying to help you empathize with the other side.

    2) The idea of empathizing with liberals is so distasteful that you are truly unable to see the connection that I am making. In case this is so, I will try to explain it better.

My point is that while you insult the liberals on this thread for their clearly wrong ideas, you yourself wouldn’t come close to admitting this data set to be definitive, if you were on the other side. This is why I substituted “socialism” for “racism” in our equation, to help you feel how they feel. It’s the same exact equation though.

If you really want to engage with them and try to honestly help them see a different perspective, you can’t start your thread talking about their ideas are “tired” and offer some evidence that you yourself wouldn’t accept. I highly doubt that’s how you start conversations with your wife. “Honey, see link on why forks should be placed tines up in the dishwasher. Maternal thinking is so tired.” Of course not. Liberals, like wives, are people just like you. They have come to see the world in a certain way, just like you. And the way to get their attention is the same way that they could get yours.

*Hypothetically. The actual history of housing policy in this country and people's reactions to low income housing being built near near them says otherwise.

Leftists fear monger and rob minorities of their agency to such an extent that they perpetuate bad altercations with police and insurmountable holes as far as poverty goes.

Democrats, with respect to race, are masters at embellishing a problem very small in scope and making it worse than it initially was by making people afraid. Afraid of cops, afraid of race-baiting.

Here you are robbing minorities of agency by saying the Democrats pull all the strings to make them do things

It wasn’t until 1948 that the Confederate flag re-emerged as a potent political symbol. The reason was the Dixiecrat revolt — when Strom Thurmond led a walkout of white Southerners from the Democratic National Convention to protest President Harry S. Truman’s push for civil rights. The Dixiecrats began to use the Confederate flag, which sparked further public interest in it.

It’s always some “other” pulling the strings. Absent the “other,” Blacks and other minorities would and should just shut up and be happy with the status quo. That’s the real message here.

Who says they are? No one is born racist, there's no racist gene.

Gatorade, from my POV you’re easily one of the better posters on the board...and it’s because of posts like this.
I’m a much better talker than writer and many times I write quickly between traffic lights on the road.
I find the board entertaining and I don’t always take the time to write thoughtfully. Also, you’re fellow liberal posters, many of them, have created a environment here where we’re all more argumentative than we would be in person.
I found the link interesting and while it may be difficult to gauge racism, it does mean something.

What some of you are missing is that they are phrasing the question "would you live next to another race". What doesn't show up is that you can be a minority race AND be racist.

There probably not a lot of other countries that have large percentages of different races like ours does so the chances of living next door to another race goes up just because of that. But sometimes groups of the same race will all move into the same neighborhood like Chinatown or Latino areas. Whether that is because they are racist or they like to be near people that share their culture.
In that scenario, someone could be racist and not want to live next to other races even though they are in the minority percentage wise.

I appreciate it, Bluke. I think this is the first time I made your “ok for the other side list”. :)

I saw what you were intending, and I think it’s worthwhile. If we can’t assess how much racism exists, it will be hard to know how much of a problem we have and when we might consider the problem resolved. But as you point out, each side is somewhat entrenched in their views, and it’s quite a challenging and delicate feat to slip behind the group defenses to get to individual openness. I don’t think any of us are immune. I’m certainly not - if one more person on here disparages Citizen Kane, I’m going to lose it. :D

Cool pic, you of course realize that there are racists in every country on Earth? You can post a pic of some racist from pretty much every country in Europe. As if your one picture means anything.

i feel like I am missing something in your reply

are you suggesting humans don't act in ways that fit either the narrow or broader definitions of racism?

Interesting post Rade, this sentence in particular caught my attention:
If we can’t assess how much racism exists, it will be hard to know how much of a problem we have and when we might consider the problem resolved.

IMO the American Citizenry is not served well in secondary education regarding this issue, in fact I think schooling is literally non existent because our elected officials and many educators choose not to address it. I'm 62 and from the South and this was NEVER addressed in my schooling other than some brief paragraph in a text book.

Just look at Mitch McConnell - has already gone on record against the 1619 project.

Many Americans either don't want to understand the truth of its history or just refuse to.
