their next gift - a guy with no qualms using the military to round up immigrants.

wonder how our military will respond to being ordered to muster to detain and remove immigrants.

Trump Taps Tom Homan as ‘Border Czar,’ Elise Stefanik as U.N. Ambassador

Homan, who served for a year and half during Trump’s first term, was a divisive figure, ramping up arrests of people living in the U.S. illegally and discarding some of the enforcement priorities of the Obama administration that targeted criminals but left alone otherwise law-abiding undocumented immigrants. He started his career in 1984 as a Border Patrol agent, before climbing the ranks in ICE. Under the Obama administration, Homan led the Enforcement and Removal Operations division, responsible for deportations.

Trump made immigration and mass deportations a focus of his campaign, promising “the largest deportation program in American history” as soon as he takes office, and the removal of 20 million immigrants. Officials familiar with the matter expect Trump to sign a pre-drafted executive order when he takes office ordering the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies to deport undocumented migrants.

His team has been drawing up plans to carry out the mass deportation pledge, including discussion of how to pay for it and the possibility of making a national emergency declaration that would allow the incoming administration to repurpose military assets to detain and remove migrants.

Immigrants in Ft Myers are going into hiding, damaging small businesses. I have a friend who pops into a 7-11 for coffee and he said it was usually busy with migrants buying breakfast and coffee before work. There was no one there this week. The owner said he will lose $1,000/day. It's already begun. Buckle up buttercup.

Yup. Grab some popcorn - the only silver lining to Trump and MAGA will be how amusing it will be to watch them fail, to see how much he backs away from his campaign lies, and (in a cruel and sad way) how this negatively impacts both our economy and actual productive value-adding people.

    I don't disagree.

The bigger problem is that there's nothing we can do. This is today's America.

her you go latins, Stephen Miller in a key policy role..enjoy and remember to carry your papers at all times

Trump expected to announce Stephen Miller as deputy chief of staff for policy

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to announce in the coming days that Stephen Miller, his top immigration adviser, will serve as White House deputy chief of staff for policy, two sources familiar with the plans told CNN.

Miller, who served as a senior adviser to Trump during his first administration and has been a leading advocate for more restrictive immigration policy, is expected to take on an expanded role in the president-elect’s second term.

Miller is also a lead architect of Trump’s plans for mass deportation of undocumented immigrants. He has said that a second Trump administration would seek a tenfold increase in the number of deportations to more than one million per year.

Jobs and low cost consumer products and services are what fuel the bulk of our illegal immigration south of the border.

If you mass deport, inflation will sky rocket, but my guess is conservatives will reframe it for the “greater good”. Same with tariffs.

That being said, I think Trump’s ego is too big to allow the economy to tank, so we’ll get a lot of bluster more than anything.

Aggressively pursuing forced deportations is a losing issue for conservatives in the long run so I say let them have at it.
    1. It’ll be expensive to pursue people and detain them while they have a chance to prove they are citizens or not and whether their kids get to stay, etc.
    2. The cultural damage of “citizen arrests” and people informing on their neighbors will be messy.
    3. The actual economic and political cost of transporting illegals back to their home country will be messy. Especially if you are splitting families.
    4. The agriculture sector will put pressure on the admin to stop anyways because they like the cheap labor.
    5. overall, the entire process will be expensive and disruptive and Americans will eventually start complaining as we always do when the feds spend a lot on a boondoggle.

Yep, reminds me of a trump supporter i know who was all in on deporting all the illegals until she realized how it would impact her son's construction business. Quickly adjusted her thinking. Smart lady.
