Kobe Bryant Dead, Dies in Helicopter Crash

Kobe Bryant died in a helicoper crash in Calabasas Sunday morning ... TMZ Sports has confirmed.

Kobe was traveling with at least 3 other people in his private helicopter when it went down. A fire broke out. Emergency personnel responded, but nobody on board survived. 5 people are confirmed dead. We're told Vanessa Bryant was not among those on board.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Kobe has famously used a helicopter to travel for years -- dating back to when he played for the Lakers. He was known for commuting from Newport Beach, CA to the STAPLES Center in DTLA in his Sikorsky S-76 chopper.

Is this really true? I don’t see any other outlets reporting this yet...particularly ESPN.

Wow! Tragic. I can't remember the last time an athlete of that level of superstardom died in an accident.

Dude was incredibly intelligent. I am more impressed with his acumen coupled with his all-time ability more than just his ability.

What a shame. Not too far from where i live out there. Horrific loss...

Not sure why anyone would be in a helicopter this morning. Our area here was blanketed in a heavy fog- it just cleared about a half hour ago. At 10:00 AM it was pretty brutal.

One of the greatest ever taken too soon...

Sending some Gator love to the family and fans...
