It's amazing how guys like Zappa and Carlin were so right but it was hard to believe this stuff when the steps towards it were so small and incremental.

Now that the right is on a full fledged bulldozer sprint to white nationalism, the threat is far clearer.

After listening to Butker’s speech to see what all of the hullabaloo was about, my wife says “Looks like I’ll be pulling for the Chiefs now”.
We raised two boys before she started a career and will be retiring before long.

Are you going to pull for them in the first half or the second half? I assume you have to root against them in other half because Travis Kelce's girlfriend doesn't know her place and has opinions on issues that she didn't get his approval for.

My point was that a pope who made the same criticisms of wokeism that Butker made would probably end up disappearing into the night in the back of a limo like Benedict did. This world has been handed over to darkness.

If you consider the world today to be in darkness, when do you think the world was in the light?

Catholic dude makes a speech at Catholic university. The "Twitter-verse" erupts.
Seems to me that Chiefs team has their collective heads on straight, almost universally saying "Yeah, those are his opinions..." https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/24/sport/travis-kelce-harrison-butker-controversy-spt-intl/index.html
Meanwhile, the side of "tolerance" decries the person (not just his opinions), wants him fired from his job (as he dares to view life differently) and doxes him.

No tolerance, no diversity in opinion, no chit. Of course, we are warned to be afraid of the Harrison Butkers of the world...because, they have different opinions.

    1. He isn't a "Catholic dude." He follows some weird breakaway group that has tried to reverse Vatican II.
    2. Saying what city somebody lives in is not "doxing him."
    3. The notion that a person's opinion can't be harmful is itself a ridiculous idea. People are allowed to call out opinions and even people that have those opinions. Heck, you are doing both here in defense of this guy's opinions.

Not in the main line of the church at least. He belongs to one of the Anti-Vatican II groups. I don't generally like to view myself as an arbiter over who is and isn't Christian, but he is not a follower of the current Roman Catholic Church and is explicitly critical of that church, both in terms of its leadership and membership.

I’m guessing he means he doesn’t speak for most Catholics. I agree.

The left wants a DEI nationalist society where religious expression contrary to their brand of nationalism is forbidden and punished.

They were never small or incremental, they laid out what they wanted from day 1. People just always assumed they were a crazy minority who could never get it implemented. But the things about being a zealot is that you can outlast your opponents even from the minority, which is exactly what they have done. And once they got the reins it all came crashing in at once.

They aren't billionaires, they are excessive cash impacted individuals. Please be respectful of their terrible plight.
